Klance fanfic thing
It was 3am, and Keith couldn't sleep. It wasn't an abnormal thing, nor was it a pleasant one. He shuffled around in his bed and tried to get comfortable for what seemed like the hundredth time. Maybe it was because of the hotel's hard bedding, but his head throbbed mildly. He recalled being told hard bedding was good for the body or something.
Lies.
He missed his bed back on the castle of Lions. He groaned internally and stared at the ceiling.
Thoughts ran through his head. He squeezed his eyes shut.
He wanted to talk to someone. Preferably someone he trusted. His mind travelled to the people he was closest to. Shiro, who was an older sibling to him. He trusted Shiro with his life as much as he trusted his taste in men. He had been almost as devastated as Shiro when he heard about Adam's death.
Recently though, Keith had noticed him around a certain other man. He had dark skin and a handsome face, and Keith only looked at Shiro suggestively as he walked past, leaving the white haired man red-faced. Additionally, Shiro had brought him along for the trip, with some negotiating.
Despite the changes they were both going though, Shiro would always be his role model. They were no different from family. He half smiled to himself as he remembered stealing his car upon their earliest encounters.
His thoughts brought him to his mother, who was likely sleeping. He decided not to interrupt her, as she hardly had a chance to relax. Krolia had come into his life suddenly, without warning. Meeting on Lotor's ship was the last place he expected to finally meet his last remaining family member. Although they had been a little awkward at first, they eventually warmed up to each other as kin.
He started to think about Lance, but removed that thought as quickly as it came. He felt his chest get heavier, and turned on his side. He'd be the last person to talk to, for personal reasons.
His eyes travelled to his window, where light gently spilled through the slivers of curtains. He sat up, bearing the ache in his head. He drew the curtains open, and fiddled with the handle. When the window opened up, Keith grumbled in annoyance as he stupidly reached out, only to be blocked by a sheet of mesh that he swore wasn't there before.
He really needed to sleep.
On the contrary, he wanted to be outside. He grabbed his knife and cut the mesh away, knowing he'd regret it later. But he didn't seem to find it in him to care as he stuck his head out and breathed in the crisp night air. Feeling more at ease, he looked down from the window.
The hotel which Shiro had booked for them (saying they deserved a break from space activities) was located near a forest, as well as a beach. Since they had technically saved the world, they got vip rooms, ones that saw over the sea or the forest. It depended on which way you were facing. Keith was given a room over the ocean, to his satisfaction. Not wanting to disturb anyone, he lifted himself up slowly through the window and onto the roof. Everyone else's rooms were fairly close, which made Keith extra wary of interrupting anyone's sleep.
He sat near his window, gazing over the rippling surface far below. The moonlight looked almost dreamlike, glittering over the water.
It had been six months since their adventure had ended. Six months since they witnessed the lions fly away.
Six months before their one and only princess sacrificed herself for the good of the universe.
The thought still hurt, throbbing dully, like a scar that hadn't healed right. He remembered her face when she was informed of Keith's race, but he had forgiven her for all that. That wasn't to say the duration in between had been painless. Her determined face when she needed to focus, usually to avoid them all from perishing gave everyone on the castle strength.
He remembered when she thought Zarkon was using her to track down the castle. The look in her eyes was a mixture of worry, fear and serious. No doubt she wouldn't have thought twice about sacrificing herself if it meant it would save the universe.Which she eventually did.
He shook his head, laying back. Long periods of time by himself usually went similar paths. He felt guilty thinking he was in pain though.
He couldn't imagine what it was like for Lance. He'd spent so much time pining over her, Keith wanted to slap himself for every time he doubted Allura's feelings for Lance. The moments he fantasized about Lance and him together were ones he felt most like scum.
At the same time, Coran was equally affected. Although Keith wasn't entirely certain about their relationship, he knew Coran made it his duty to protect the princess. He remembered his reaction when Lance told him the news.
He'd taken Coran away to tell him the news. His cries of agony were heard from a mile away.
Since then, he'd changed. His once cheerful and endearingly strange humor was reduced to a quieter, somber man. Keith could say the same for Lance.
His chest ached to see them like that. More so for Lance.
Go to bed, Keith.
