New town, and a new school again. Never failed every year we moved to a new place, all because of my dad's job. Hell I didn't even know where he worked or what his job is anymore. It always changed so I stopped asking because if I liked it or not I was going to be the new girl yet again somewhere else.
My name is Amanda Perks, but everyone calls me Mandy. I am seventeen, and about five feet tall. My hair is raven black, and I have blue almost grey eyes. This year, my senior year of high school, was going to be my very last move hopefully. The town they picked this time was Keys Peak, Colorado. A very small town, the kind of small town where everyone grew up knowing each other. I did not want to be here, and I haven't even stepped foot out of the moving truck. People were staring, even peaking out of curtains to see the new comers to their town.
Some mothers were taking their small children inside to watch from their homes, it was a bit unnerving really. The town was beautiful though, and even had trees all around it. If you weren't looking for it, or you didn't have a map you might have even thought the town wasn't here. There was forest life on the border of the whole town, I couldn't wait to go explore. It was currently mid-afternoon on Friday, the perfect day to move in so that I was ready by Monday morning for school.
I had to drive one more block according to the map, and I will be in front of our new home. Ready to start getting settled into another temporary place, at least me and my mother will be getting settled into the new place tonight. Pulling up to the curb right in front of the house, I could see workers moving around unloading another truck full of our stuff. Taking everything into the nice two story home.
The house was white with light tan trim, and tan shutters. The porch was nice, almost like a half wrap around with a porch swing on it. The whole property looked like it was surrounded by a brown fence marking our yard from forest, and neighbor alike. I jump out of the moving truck leaving it running, because I don't know if that is where my mother wants me to park it.
"Isn't this place gorgeous? I think we could really settle down here, it is perfect." Mom spoke, I resisted the urge to roll my eyes at this because we all knew it was a lie. Opting instead to smile and nod at her as a response. "Well what are you waiting for? Shut the truck off, and lets get unloading." The dreaded words, but I did as I was told opening the back to get started.
This was going to be a long day, it was already a two day drive from our last home. Supposedly everything was moved, and already set up the furniture anyway. All the clothes, decorations, and everything else like that was in these moving trucks. So I went ahead and started to grab boxes, taking them inside. I decided while we were carrying everything in mom could go through and separate where every box needs to go.
I could feel the eyes of the neighbors watching me, and it gave me an unsettling feeling. I don't like being the center of attention, so having them stare at me wasn't helping. I knew we were knew, and I knew we were in a town where obviously nobody ever really moved but it wasn't helping. Trying to move quickly so I could hide behind the confines of the walls, I ended up tripping and twisting my left ankle.
Of course this would happen to me, and the pain felt unbearable. I wouldn't cry though, I didn't want to show any weakness to people I didn't know. I hardly liked my mother knowing when I was hurt, I always hid it from her. She always tried to make these moves as bearable as she possibly could for me. One of the movers helped me up onto the porch, setting me gently on the swing.
He was a pretty good looking guy as well, maybe eighteen years old or a little older. He gave me a smile, and took my shoe off rolling my pant leg up a little to look at my ankle. He gave a little wince when he saw how swollen it was. That didn't make me feel any better.
