Mental health is a mixture of emotional, phycological and social wellbeing. This affects how we think, feel and act. It also determinate how we handle stress and relate to other people. It can also help when having to make choices.

Mental health is important in everyday life as its important through every stage of your life and also from childhood to adolescence and then through adulthood.

Throughout your life you may experience mental health problems. This means that thinking, mood and behaviour could be affected.

There are many factors that can contribute to mental health problems. This may include biological factors like genes. Another factor is life experiences which can include trauma or abuse.

The last factor is family history of mental health problems.

Definition of mental health
Mental health is a state of well- being in which the individual realises his or her own abilities , can cope with the normal stresses of life , can work productively and fruitfully .
This is all according to the World Health Organisation.

Early warning signs
If you are not sure that someone is living with mental health problems there are early warning signs that you can look for .

These can include :
- Eating or sleeping to much or too little .
- Pulling away from people and activities that you enjoy .
- Having no energy .
- Feeling numb and thinking nothing matters.
- Having unexplained aches and pains .
- Feeling helpless and also hopeless.
- Smoking , drinking or using drugs more often.
- Feeling confused , forgetful. , on edge ,angry , upset or worried .
- Yelling or fighting with either family or friends .
- experiencing severe mood swings that can cause problems with relationships.
- Having persistent thoughts and memories you can't get out of your head.
- Hearing voices or believing things aren't true .
- Thinking of Harming yourself .
