The alarm exploded through my ears and I kicked the blanket off of me in complete irritation."Ugh."
My tummy growled aloud, the first thought being that it was the first day of returning to school after spring break. Totally yay.
I got off bed, brushed my teeth and pulled on a blue polka-doted dress, combed my hair, untangling my bed head and smacked some gloss onto my lips.
I studied my reflection; almond-shaped light gray eyes; an unusual metallic tinge to it and straight hair with your typical chocolate brown, meeting right above my waist. And I was pretty tall compared to my classmates. I looked alright.
Of course, except for the slight bags under my eyes, which I decided won't hurt to cover up using some powder. But the bags were slowly fading, since I was yet getting used to sleeping at night without having continuous dreams, which has been happening for three whole years.
Hard to believe, but it has already been almost four years since the dreams have ended. Maybe it was for the best...
I walked down the stairs, grabbed a bagel for breakfast and kissed my mother goodbye. She was doing pretty well, considering dad had passed away four years ago. She was a strong woman, even though she had lost someone she had loved so much. Sometimes I wish I was more like my mother. I was weaker and have lost way too much at such a young age...
I took off to school, my side bag slung ontn my shoulder lazily. As the school came into my view, I saw Eva and Fiona, approaching me. They pulled me close, and I sighed happily, feeling welcomed. They were pretty much the only reasons why I ever looked forward to actually going to school.
We greeted, and said our "Hellos" and "How you doings?"
Suddenly, Eva's eyes gleamed with a cryptic mischief. Fiona took a note of it immediately and said, "I know that look, Eva. Spill it already."
But Eva's eyes were locked somewhere behind us. Then she returned her gaze to me and Fiona and said, "Oh my God. Have you seen him yet?"
"Uh...care to elaborate, please?" I asked, in complete confusion.
"Dude, haven't you seen the newbie yet? Smokin'...What a wicked beauty," Eva said, evidently mesmerized by the sight.
She pointed behind me and I followed her yellow painted nail. There were just the usual crowd of students chattering away probably about their spring break, but no one seemed to stand out in the crowd. There was your crowd of jocks, smashing fists and laughing aloud, the 'populars' with excited looks and over exaggerated gestures and the others who did not have a particular clique.
"Ugh! Too late. He just entered the building. Oh well, you will see him sooner or later anyways. Just a heads up; when you do see him, try not to faint," she said, with complete seriousness. This was your typical "Eva behaviour", her eyes lurking around for someone attractive while Fiona and I chattered away.
"Apperently he's new in town. Have heard he was coming to this school, but don't know his name though," Fiona said.
"Neither do I," Eva said.
"Oh, what a surprise, knowing that you go in total stalker mode when you come to know about a hot guy," I said, making Fiona giggle and Eva roll her eyes with evident denial, when she knew the truth herself.
We heard the first bell ring, and I prepared to scurry away into my first period. First period; English. Yoop dee doo. Not.
I was getting better at having a greater attention span. The last few years, I have been too distracted, my life was quiet a mess. And there wasn't a moment that I could sit back and relax without thinking about all I have lost. It shook me up quiet badly, introducing such an intense misery, I did not even know of its existence. Maybe my father's loss had induced all those silly dreams.
