"Relax, idiot." Harry grumbles to himself, once again ruffling and rearranging his hair in his rear view mirror. His collar feels too stiff and he wants to rip his blazer off, he's so nervous and sweaty and he hasn't even taken off his seatbelt yet.
He hadn't spoken to Mathew in nearly two years and he was very nervous. Harry wasn't the same man that he had been, his Louis had softened him up a great deal and he didn't know how he'll handle himself without his tough exterior.
Mathew had been the one before. He had been Harry's submissive until, as bad as it sounds, Harry got tired of him and wanted someone new. Now it was Louis, everything was Louis.
"You're gonna be fine." Harry says to his reflection and then he checks his teeth before shutting off his car and then climbing out of it.
He pulls lightly on his bottom lip, a nervous habit of his and as he touches his mouth, he briefly thinks of Louis and how much he'd like to kiss him. Shaking the thought, Harry enters the restaurant, smiling at the host.
"Hi, reservation for Ramos? It's for two... I'm afraid I'm a tad late." Harry says with a smile, dimple on display. "Of course, that's no problem, the other member of your party is already here." The host replies kindly before getting a waiter to lead Harry into the restaurant.
The table isn't too far from the door and Harry can see the back of Mathew's head. He'd filled out a bit, obviously had been working out and his hair was dark and a little shorter than Harry remembered.
He shakes his nerves, reminding himself that at one point they had put a shit load of trust into one another and were as close as Harry would allow. He didn't have to fear Mathew, Mathew didn't own his heart now, he never had. Louis did.
"Mat?" The nickname slips out naturally as he approaches the table. Mathew must be a little nervous too because he jumps at the sound of Harry's voice, quickly standing.
"Hi! Sir- I mean, Harry. Hi. Hey." Mathew says quickly, shaking his head at his mistake, dark brown eyes looking everywhere but at Harry before they rest on him.
"It's good to see you." Mathew says quietly with a shy smile, his singular dimple poking out and Harry remembers when that had charmed him. He was handsome, yes, but Harry couldn't help but compare him to Louis and he absolutely was no Louis. Before Harry can say anything, Mathew continues, "Your hair has gotten so long!" He exclaims and Harry laughs a little at that.
"Yeah I guess it has." Harry replies before going over to his chair and taking a seat. "Thank you for agreeing to meet with me." Harry says as he sits down, placing his phone on the table in front of him.
"Oh yeah of course." Mathew says with a dismissive wave of his hand and a blinding smile. "Anything for an old-...friend." Mathew coughs and Harry glances down to his own lap, awkward.
"Hope I didn't impose on your day." Harry says as he picks up his menu, needing to busy his hands. "Oh uh no you didn't, got me away from my boyfriend for a little bit but he'll manage." Mathew says with a fond smile and Harry is glad he's found someone.
"I agreed to bring him leftovers so it's all good." He adds and Harry smiles, feels himself relax and he briefly thinks about him and Louis being cute and domestic like that.
The pair order and are just chatting for a little bit. Harry doesn't bring up why he'd called Mathew and neither does Mathew, which he's glad for. Harry is still nervous, afraid Mathew will tell him he's awful and unlovable or worse that he should just piss off and leave Louis alone.
