"its like you have magic fingers!" the Canadian said to the tan boy after he finished playing a short piano piece."no, I just practice. unlike you." the tan boy teased after clasping his hands together and bowing his head towards the piano.
"why do you do that after you play?" the older boy asked after seeing the younger do his unusual habit once again.
"my mother taught me to thank God after I play, so I made it a habit to say a brief 'thank you' after each piece, whether it comes out good or bad." the younger said, shrugging slightly and grazing his fingers along the white and black ivory of the piano keys.
"that makes sense I guess. your mom taught you well." the older said, completely oblivious to the younger's shaking body as he tried to conceal his tears.
"I think that's enough of this. want to go and get ice cream?" the younger asked, abruptly standing from the piano bench and wiping his eyes, trying not to show the older his weak side.
"umm, yeah sure. lets go?" the older said, reaching his hand out for the younger to take, curious about why he began to cry.
"I'm thinking this time around we should try those weird taco and cheeseburger flavors, just for fun." the younger said, flashing a fake smile and taking the older's hand and leading him out of the music building with his favorite piano in it.
and the older regrets not asking the younger why he was sad. he regrets not seeing that as the days progressed, so did the boy's tears. maybe if he wasn't so dense, he would have been able to be with him that night.
