Mistake.

  Who's in the shadows?
  Who's ready to play?
  Are we the hunters,
    or are we the prey?

Stomp. Stomp. Stomp. The sound fills my brain, it's the only thing I hear. I want to go along with it. Step in rhythm with it. I shake my head, startling myself out of my daze. I can hear it behind me. Nonetheless, I keep moving. I can't let it get to me.. but my legs are becoming so heavy, my stomach seems to be closing in on me, my air is getting seemingly scarce although I know it's all in my head. I squint my eyes in the dark to make sure I don't run into any trees. I barely dodge them- left, right, forward, right, left, left, left..  I'm trying to remember so I don't get lost, so I can get back to the cabin, but it's just so hard.. I can see the glowing red from its eyes in front of me. It's so tall. I want to look back, but I know that if I do then I'll fall, or scream and lose my footing, or something along those lines. Then I'll die. I want to stop, to slow down at least, but then I know he will get me, he will surely kill me. It's so hard.. I remind myself why I'm alive. Which is..? It seems pointless now. Nobody would miss me. I'm weak, I've nearly given into the thing behind me multiple times. So this will be my last act of defiance, bravery. What will my last words be? I turn to my left and head in a circle, the thing's speed not faltering. Mine does. I want to fall. Oh well. I jolt to a stop right in front of a tree.
He doesn't love me.
He never did.
He never will.
Death is death, no matter how painful in the end it won't matter. The pain won't last long.
I can feel it standing behind me.
Goodbye..
I need air.
I'm panting.
I mumble,
"Goodbye, love. I'll miss you. Take care of cloud for me..!" even though I know he can't hear me. I'll miss my cat...
The thing's claws wrap around my torso. I don't flinch. It's cold. It lifts me off of the ground and throws me into the snow. I look up expectantly. It picks me up again, but this time by the neck. It lifts me in the air. I close my eyes. I begin to struggle for air, but I know I know I won't get it. I open my eyes. Its face is right in mine. My vision blacks out,

and I smile.

Then it's all over.
