"Come on Jack! We're gonna be late!"
"I'm coming, gosh Em, why you gotta be so loud?"
"Another typical day, I see," I mumbled under my breath.
"What?"
"Nothing dear big brother Jack," I said with a mischievous smile. Well, it was Monday, and just like any other, we were rushing around the house getting ready for the school day ahead of us.
When we moved to Madison, Jack was starting high school, and I was on my last year of middle school.
We were sad to leave our friends and home behind, but we quickly made new friends.
Jack's best friend, his name is Ryan. They met through basketball, they were on the same team and went to championship together. My best friend, she's amazing. Her name is Maria, she kind of looks like me. We both have brown hair and glasses. I'm taller than her, she's shorter. Her teeth are straight, mine aren't. We have different hobbies too. We met in English class, we were partners for a project. We're also both shy.
A week after, Jack was very popular. Being the new, cute boy, he made friends quickly. I, on the other hand, didn't. It was a Friday, when we were assigned partners for a project in English. A collective groan was made by the class. I didn't join in, because then I wouldn't be the one without a partner. I was happy that the teacher was doing this.
"Emily and Maria." I knew who Maria was. I had noticed her, always reading a book in the back of the class. After the teacher had finished calling out pairs, I moved to sit next to her. As always, her nose was in a book. "Maria?" She looked over at me, looking slightly startled. "Hmm?" She seemed confused.
"I'm Emily, we're partners."
"Oh" she seemed to relax a little.
"Is there anything specific you want to do the project on?" I questioned slowly.
"How about a project on Harry Potter?" She asked hopefully. "Sure, I don't have a problem with that. Do you want to go to the library after school to look for some books?"
"Yeah, that sounds good to me. Then tomorrow we could maybe go to my house or yours to start it?" She suggested. "Yeah, that works." I sat down and we discussed what we already knew.
Two weeks later we handed in our project. One week later we got it back. We got an A on the project, and...
I had made a new friend.
