Quix's eyes fluttered open, for a brief moment she wondered, where she was. Then, the past night's events hit her. As Quix awoke slowly, her vision a little blurred, she saw a figure in front of her, quite close. Her eyes focused quickly, zeroing in on the figure. It was the boy from the night before, his back pressed closer than what was comfortable. Aneke was resting peacefully, a slight smirk even rested on his sleeping frame. Quix shifted upward in a fast motion, although, while doing so she smacked her head against a wooden board. She inhaled sharply, touching her temple, while muttering ow several times. She glanced over at him, Aneke specifically, her brows furrowing with confusion. Strange, it seemed to her that he was quiet comfortable with strangers.
Moving away, Quix went to join the other man. She swiftly jumped over bags of flour, sitting next to him while he held a firm grip on the reins, keeping the houses on a straight path towards the east.
" I apologise for the disturbance last night" The man said.
" What are you talking about Sir?" Quix said after giving a yawn.
" You- Hadn't heard..." He said trailing off.
" No... whatever do you mean by that?" Quix asked arching an eyebrow.
Something happened? I must have been seriously out of it in order not to hear... whatever had happened last night.
" last night, I was holding a frying pan. It was out of place so I was trying to put it back in the crate which it was taken out of." He paused, clearing his throat. " anyway, Aneke was sitting close behind me, and offered to put it away. I... I didn't realize he was to my right, and well... I smacked him with the frying pan." He became silent for a few moments. " The noise was pretty loud, I was certain it woke you up."
Quix's mouth was slightly open, her eyes squinting. These two were a lot more, violent? Odd? Crazy? Either way they were a lot of something.
"Well..." Quix paused, not sure how she should respond. " It sound's like you two have a great time on road trips. "
The man gave a laugh.
"We really do, although we usually don't swing pan's at each other. I take it you slept though all the noise? "He said, looking at her out of the corner of his eye.
Quix nodded, surprised he guessed correctly.
" Actually, yes, I was up for quite awhile last night. How did you know Sir?" Quix commented, staring to see a town emerged in the nearby distance.
" I heard you and Aneke mumbling a little so I assumed that you two stayed up talking." He said.
Quix nodded, her attention drifted to the buildings, weird names were popping up every so often. For example Billy's Mind-boggling Burgers. Celery Stock, which sold socks. And the oddest of them all Smelly Sam's Supper Club. Quix shook her head at these name.
" These names are very, interesting I'll say." Quix said putting it nicely.
" Indeed, very interesting but the food at Smelly Sam's is actually very tasty." He responded.
" You know Sir, I've never asked your name. Would you mind telling me?" She asked.
" Ah- , yes, my name is Jeffory. And you?" He turned giving a grin.
" Quix, It's a pleasure knowing your name Jeffory." Quix said giving him a half smile.
" Likewise." Jeffory said to her.
A large stone building rose high above them, vines climbed the walls seeping into every crack and crevasse on the rough surface. Large regal gates swung open to the rolling hills, to what could be assumed a castle. Beautiful gardens were placed just inside the main gates, hedges marked a walkway to the entrance, to the right of her Quix saw aristocrats walking on the grass to the elegant stream of water below. Some held smug expressions , other smiling and laughing. And of course, some withheld a pampas expressions as the wagon wheel by. Certain aristocrats held the stereotype to a T while others broke it, being kind gentle souls. However Quix had the great displeasure of helping one extremely rude and ungrateful wealthy girl. The situation flashed breifly through her mind, a kidnapping.
Downtown Quix had been roaming the streets, buying the necessities for that day. After purchasing a few apples, Quix heard a loud and frightened scream. She felt strong and large gushes of wind, immediately Quix borrowed a horse. She caught up to the misfits rather quickly, they were not suspecting anyone to actually do something.
After managing to catch the kidnapper Quix sat the girl down, and expected a thank you, however, in exchange all Quix received was a little huff and the girl walked away with a disgusted look on her face, while brushing herself off. Quix decided to think of something else, dwelling on the past would only bring a sour attitude. Instead, she started to wonder about her new Boss, thoughts such as: would her boss be a bit of a jerk? Or would he be nice and kind? Short or tall?
Quix looked at the marvelous set up of the garden. The hedges were designed to look like mythical animals, although the most beautiful, majestic, and down right huge hedge was the one shaped like a dragon. Larger leaves were specifically grown to be the scales of this beautiful beast. The head was cleanly cut, the eyes were red blood roses, the resemblance to a real dragon was done perfectly.
" Welcome Sir's~ We hope you had safe travels!" A maid said.
The outfits they have to wear, Quix would rather eat a live cricket than wear something so revealing.
" Ahhhhh, good day madam, say do you have any pills to solve my aching head?" Aneke said holding his head.
" Ahaha, I see sleeping beauty woke up to meet prince charming" Jeffory said poking fun at Aneke.
Aneke gave a slight blush.
" What are you talking about Jeffory? I don't have a love interest, nor am I female." Aneke said giving Jeffory a dirty look.
" It's a metaphor princess, or do you need an animal friend to help you solve it? " Jeffory said tipping his hat to the little maid returning with some pills.
" Your so funny Jeffory, really, you should have considered stand up comedy . " Aneke turned to the maid, a friendly smile on his face. " Thank you m'lady." Aneke said taking the pills from her and swallowing them with a loud gulp.
"Anyways, We're here, Quix it's time you met the boss" Jeffory said, pulling the wagon to a full stop.
" I'll be running along then, thank you for bringing me" Quix said nodding a goodbye to the two.
Quix roamed the halls, turning into each wing with confusion. The walls all looked the same, paintings held a running theme. She gave up trying to find the main office by herself, she asked one of the scantily clothed maid's where she could locate it.
Quix took a deep breath, it was the moment that she had been anxious about the night before. She started to turned the handle , listening to the clicking gears while she turned it in a circular motion. Quix stopped mid way, nervous. After all the work Jeffory and Aneke did, it would be disappointing if she backed out now. Quix finally opened the door to meet a much younger man than what she was anticipating.
" Hello Mrs. Adreina, I've been expecting you for a while now."
