Obviously, for this, they were despised.
Their families spited them, calling them an embarrassment. They were hidden from the world, their families trying to imprint in their minds this motto: Being different is worse than being unique; Being unique is equivalent to being an outcast;
Being an outcast is a death sentence.
It was with this in mind, that they began primary school.
In the beginning, there were only two colors: Green, and Red, bearing the names Edd Gold, and Tord Learson. One native the other foreign, they were both dulled by the draining atmosphere around them. But, no matter the challenges they faced, no matter how dull they became, their colors still remained.
Next, there arrived Blue, bearing the name Tom Ridell. He, though new to the town, suffered the most from the grey monotony. By the beginning of first year, his eyes had gone dark; a sign of concealment of one's soul. But no matter the challenges he faced, no matter how dull they became, his colors remained. That pesky stain of Individuality.
Though they were all placed in the same class, they did not know one another. Their teacher, Mr. Mortem, made sure of that. Mr. Mortem was a grey old man who smelled of wet newspaper and worn socks. Bent from old age, he was enormously fat. His wide face featured a jaw that protruded heavily, and his eyes were hooded and beady. He was not always very present, nor acquainted with reality. From time to time, you would see his eyes adopt a glazed look, a trail of saliva dripping down his chin. It was at these times, that he lived up to the true meaning of his name: Death. Quite frankly, he gave off the appearance of an ill old bulldog.
But despite his feeble appearance, Mr. Mortem was known and feared by all of the residents of Ladrigris. He was one of the founders of the values that their town adopted: He implored people who conformed, ridding themselves of bothersome opinions all individual goals, and shunned those who kept their "selfish plague". In other words, he was one of the people who kept them Isolated. One of the people who outlawed "color".
But, Green, Red, and Blue did not see much of Mr. Mortem through their lifetime. Later that fall, Mr. Mortem mysteriously dissappeared. It seemed as a weight had been lifted from the town, like a tremendous burden was just erased, leaving the children of color feeling weightless.
But, with Mr. Mortem gone, the children in the first year class of Ladigris Elementary were left teacherless.
It was then that Purple arrived, bearing the name Matt Harvey. With him came something would stay in the hearts of children of color forever. For with him, came his mother, Their new teacher, and the person that would change Ladigris forever:
Mrs. Kathrine Harvey.
