Note: What if... the world has been peaceful? The Wen Clan was suppressed by the four great clans before the Wen Clan could make a move. Wei Wuxian didn’t need to practice demonic cultivation. Nie Mingjue survived his qi deviation. Jiang Fengmian and madam Yu didn’t die. Jiang Yanli and Jin Zixuan continued to be parents of Jin Ling. Wei Wuxian... became Jiang Cheng’s right-hand man. But... what will happen to Lan Wangji?

Lotus Pier
“Hmm~” Wei Wuxian hummed as he walked back and forth, his hands on his back as he holds the Suibian.
“What’re you doing?” Jiang Cheng asked as he raised his face in between the stack of papers on both sides of his desk.
Wei Wuxian stopped and his face lit up. He turned to Jiang Cheng. “You finally noticed!” he said and grinned as he scurried to Jiang Cheng’s table and sat across him. “I’m bored.” He answered and frowned.
Jiang Cheng returned the frown. “Then help me with these.” He told him and looked at the paper works.
“No way!” Wei Wuxian answered. “Those are your works.” He said.
“Aren’t you my right-hand man?” Jiang Cheng frowned.
“But I’m not your secretary-assistant.” Wei Wuxian answered and stood up. I’ll just go find some fun. He thought.
Jiang Cheng watched him walk away, his black uniform of the YunmengJiang Sect is right for him. How many years have they been together? Since they were young, up till now… 20? More than that. He thought and sighed as he resumed his work. “But I don’t have a secretary either…” he muttered and his forehead fell on the desk, burnout.
“Is working a sect leader hard for you?” Jiang Fengmian asked as he walked towards him silently.
Jiang Cheng immediately sat up. “Father.” He said and was about to stand up when Jiang Fengmian motioned him to remain seated.
“I already told you. You don’t have to take the sect leader’s position immediately.” Jiang Fengmian told him as he sat across Jiang Cheng.
Jiang Cheng’s face is serious. “I am fine.” He answered. “I may be still greenhorn, but I’ll manage.” He said and bowed. He then picked up the brush and started writing.
Jiang Fengmian smiled, watching him. “I heard what you and A-Xian said.” He said. “Maybe… I should fine you a wife?” he asked.
Jiang Cheng’s arm slipped from the desk and the brush made a long distinct line across the papers. “Father!” he called, his face red.
Jiang Fengmian’s laugh echoed in the Lotus Pier. Wei Wuxian stopped, only to smile. “Now, then – “ he said as he brushed up the locks on his hair that’s down, a braid on one side of his head that tied with the some portion of his hair inside his black head cap. His appearance is sloppy and wild, in tune of his carefree attitude despite being an adult.
The past years was really rough due to the Wen Sect’s oppression. But, the four great sects unified before the Wen Sect could start subdue them. They suppressed the Wen Sect by the four sect leaders’ – Nie Mingjue of QingheNie, Jin Guangyao of LanlingJin, Lan Xichen of GusuLan and, yes, Jiang Wanyin of the YunmengJiang, agreement. They went to the Qishan, led by Jin Guangyao, and talked with Wen Ruohan. Everybody was present, and so they heard Jin Guangyao’s words to Wen Ruohan, which made the man shocked but them all puzzled.
“If you still want your spring, we promise your sect won’t experience winter and only summer and fall.” Jin Guangyao said to Wen Ruohan, a bright smile on his face.
Unbeknownst to everyone, Jin Guangshan broke a sweat and looked away when Wen Ruohan secretly glanced at him. And just like that, Wen Ruohan unwillingly agreed to hold his sect back. And peace came for everybody.
Lanling – Koi Tower
“You damn cut-sleeve!” an angry voice called, followed by a bright laugh, lifting your heart.
“I know – ah.” Someone said, his hair is  a mess, when his back bump on somebody. “Hm?” he said and turned, only to see a handsome elegant man but giving a carefree aura. “You’re good-looking! I’m Mo Xuanyu. What’s your name?” he asked and smiled widely.
“Wei Wuxian.” Wei Wuxian answered and smiled. “You’re a beauty! What a shame, I only go after skirts and not pants.” He said and he shook his head in dismay.
Mo Xuanyu giggled. “A shame, too, I won’t go after you since you are nice. A flatterer, though!” he said and giggled as he skipped away, humming. A flower on the side of his head.
Wei Wuxian shook his head, but he’s smiling. “That kid’s bright.” He muttered as he entered the Koi Tower. He’s going to find Jiang Yanli and Jin Ling. He just hopes he won’t ran into Jin Zixuan. Or else… he frowned.
He turned and his eyes caught Nie Mingjue, Nie Huaisang, Jin Guangyao and Lan Xichen. They seem to be arguing over something. He stopped and listened (eavesdrop).
“Sect leader Nie. Please refrain young master Nie for making noise in Koi Tower.” Jin Zixuan said, his face serious.
Ah. He’s here. Wei Wuxian thought and frowned. This guy, though, could be the sect leader of the LanlingJin sect yet he didn’t and let Jin Guangyao take the position since he said he wanted to be a father and a husband. This made Wei Wuxian and Jiang Cheng puke in disgust, but held back to not since Jiang Yanli was there at that time Jin Zixuan said it.
“This isn’t the Cloud Recesses that prohibits noise!” Nie Huaisang said, mad.
And here’s the lax young master of the QingheNie Clan. Wei Wuxian thought. Just what are they arguing about - ? He thought, puzzled. “Huaisang.” Nie Mingjue called his younger brother, warning in his voice.
But Nie Huaisang didn’t stop. “We’re all aware that this person just threatened his own father to hand the sect leader position to him! Brother Zixuan. Just say it if he threatened you, too. We already know his bad personality anyway – “ he said.
And you think forcing a person to confess isn’t bad? Wei Wuxian commented in his mind. “He didn’t threaten me.” Jin Zixuan honestly said.
“Whatever.” Nie Huaisang said and turned to Jin Guangyao. “Do you know the reason why he wanted to be a sect leader?” he asked.
“It’s just normal for a cultivator to strive to be a sect leader.” Lan Xichen calmly said.
“Huaisang, stop this now – “ Nie Mingjue said, his face dark.
But, again, Nie Huaisang didn’t stop. “Fine! I’ll tell you!” he said and glared at the surprisingly silent Jin Guangyao. “He wanted to be the sect leader to get close to my brother!” he said, his eyes narrowed and he pointed Jin Guangyao. “Who knows what dark intentions is he harboring towards my brother!” he said, mad.
As expected, Nie Mingjue’s face went dark. “Is this true?” he asked.
Jin Guangyao lowered his head. “Yes… da ge.” He called.
Lan Xichen was also silent, which Nie Mingjue noticed. “Second brother, why are you silent, too? Are you colluding with him?” he asked.
Jin Zixuan’s just watching from the side. “Yes.” Lan Xichen solemnly answered. “I know of A-Yao’s intentions.” He said.
“… you two are really close.” Nie Mingjue said.
Nie Huaisang grinned at Jin Guangyao. “Why don’t you go after Xichen-gege instead?” he asked.
Hearing this, Nie Mingjue froze. “What?” he said. “Huaisang, what did you just say?” he asked his younger brother.
“This person is after you, da ge.” Nie Huaisang answered. “That’s why I – “ he said.
But, before he could continue he looked at the two. “… is what I’m thinking… is true?” he asked and stared at Jin Guangyao.
Seeing Jin Guangyao remained silent, Lan Xichen sighed. “Yes. A-Yao is after you.” He answered.
“But… I thought you and him – “ Nie Mingjue said.
Jin Guangyao hastily answered. “Da ge. Second brother and I are close because he wants to help me… go after… you.” He said and lowered his head, his face red.
Nie Huaisang snickered, while Jin Zixuan don’t know how to react. His half brother… is… he thought, having a hard time to believe this. But, Wei Wuxian received more shock. What?! He thought, wide-eyed as he held himself not to exclaim. Jin Guangyao is…?! He thought, then remembered the bright cut-sleeve he met earlier. Cut-sleeves have different personalities, too. He thought. He moved, only to have a better spot to listen to the conversation. He could already leave, yet he didn’t. He’s curious how will this end out, only to receive greater shock when he heard the next words – and it’s coming from Nie Mingjue.
“… I… “ he said, then shifted his gaze when Jin Guangyao lifted his head to face him. “I…” he said as he took a deep breath. “I-!” he said, louder, as if he could find more courage from shouting.
“Da ge…” Jin Guangyao called, then smiled bitterly. “I… am sorry for this.” He said and bowed.
Jin Zixuan’s eyes went wide. Nie Huaisang smirked. Lan Xichen sighed in pity. But, Nie Mingjue’s face is dark. “… are you apologizing… because you are lying?” he asked.
Jin Guangyao’s eyes went wide. “No!” he said and looked at Nie Mingjue. “What I feel towards da ge is true! I have always loved da ge before I could make my name in the world! I am deeply grateful second brother help me get close to you. I… I’m afraid… da ge… hates me. Because… my mother is – “ he said as his tears fell from his eyes.
But, his sob was stuck on his throat when Nie Mingjue suddenly grabbed him. Jin Zixuan’s eyes went wide, alarmed that Nie Mingjue might hit Jin Guangyao. After all, they’re still brothers. Lan Xichen’s face is serious. Nie Huaisang grinned as he opened his fan. Only, to drop it on the floor.
The fan made a loud clutter that echoed on the room that suddenly went silent. Wei Wuxian was puzzled, and so he peeked. Only to have mixed emotions – regret, shock, when he saw Nie Mingjue kissed Jin Guangyao. And on the lips! Wei Wuxian doesn’t know what to react. His shameless face suddenly went red, and so he immediately proceeded to find Jiang Yanli and Jin Ling. He found them and they’re with Yu Ziyuan. “A-Xian.” She called and smiled.
Jin Ling is eating with Yu Ziyuan. “Shijie.” He said and smiled back, then bowed. “Madam Yu. Ah Ling!” he called and smiled brightly.
Yu Ziyuan nodded, while Jin Ling frowned at him. “Hmph.” He said. “Sloppy.” He muttered.
Yu Ziyuan nodded in agreement. Jiang Yanli laughed. Wei Wuxian frowned as he tried to fix his hair. “I don’t know how to braid my hair. And I’ve gotten tired braiding and so only one side was braided.” He explained and helplessly looked at Jiang Yanli.
“Then don’t braid.” Yu Ziyuan simply answered.
Wei Wuxian grimaced. “But…” he said and stopped when Jiang Yanli reached for his hair and unbraid it. “Shijie.” He called.
“If you can’t braid it then it can’t be helped.” She said. “But, at least, you could tie it?” she asked and smiled as she looked at the simple hairstyle she made.
Wei Wuxian’s silky black hair is down but some are tied in a bun by a red ribbon, then covered by his black YunmengJiang hair cap. “Thanks, shijie.” He said and smiled.
“Don’t tell us you only went here to make your shijie fix your hair?” Yu Ziyuan asked.
Wei Wuxian’s smile crooked. “I also want to eat lotus soup…” he said and looked away when Yu Ziyuan’s eyes narrowed and she glared at him. “Ah, shijie. I still have somewhere to go - !” he said and ran away.
Yu Ziyuan just sighed while Jiang Yanli laughed. “I have somewhere to go, too!” Jin Ling said and before the two women could react, he’s running after Wei Wuxian’s trail.
Wei Wuxian was already at the entrance when he heard voices behind him coming his way. He immediately hid. “I am glad da ge and A-Yao now are good.” Lan Xichen smiled brightly.
Jin Zixuan don’t know what to say and so he just nodded. “Noooo….” Nie Huaisang cried, defeated.
Lan Xichen chuckled. “Then, I’ll be going.” He said and unsheathed Shuoye.
“Wait, Xichen-gege!” Nie Huaisang called, coming back from his senses. “Why did you let that person be with my da ge?” he asked. “Aren’t you…?” he said, puzzled.
Lan Xichen smiled. “It seems like you misunderstood something.” He said. “I only wanted to help A-Yao since he had helped me in the past. That’s all.” He explained and mounted Shuoye.
“Then… Xichen-gege likes no one?” Nie Huaisang asked.
Lan Xichen stopped and laughed. “You really like gossips.” He told him.
Jin Zixuan grimaced. Wei Wuxian frowned. You said it. He thought and looked at Lan Xichen.
“I do.” Lan Xichen answered, smiling. But, his smile is bright.
“Oh!” Nie Huaisang said, his eyes sparkled. Jin Zixuan’s curiosity was piqued, too. Even Wei Wuxian who’s now listening in closely. “Who?” Nie Huaisang asked, excited.
That someone is so lucky to be liked by the most handsome cultivator!
“Well…” Lan Xichen said and turned. “Young master Wei likes gossips, too?” he asked when he saw the lock of Wei Wuxian’s hair is out.
Wei Wuxian almost fell on the ground had he not held himself back gracefully. “I don’t… ZeWu-jun, you found me out.” He said and sighed.
Jin Zixuan’s face immediately soured. “I’m leaving.” He said and didn’t wait for them to answer. He left.
Wei Wuxian just scoffed. “Wei-xiong. It’s been a long time.” Nie Huaisang said and smiled. That smile so pure it’s transparent he’s hiding ill-intentions.
Wei Wuxian forced a smile. “Yes.” He just said.
“As I remember, Wei-xiong is chasing skirts. Is he still chasing skirts till now?” Nie Huaisang asked as he fanned himself with his fan that’s cracked after it fell earlier.
“Just ask me if I have someone I like. I’ll tell you!” Wei Wuxian grinned, didn’t notice Lan Xichen’s smile decreased.
“Oh? Then, does Wei-xiong has someone he likes?” Nie Huaisang asked.
“Hmm…” Wei Wuxian said, thinking. Lan Xichen and Nie Huaisang waited for his answer. “I like… spicy things! I like lotus rib soup shijie cooks –“ he said and continued.
Nie Huaisang’s shoulder fell. “Fine, fine. Wei-xiong likes many things.” He sighed and left, feeling dejected again.
Wei Wuxian just laughed. Lan Xichen smiled at him. “Seems like young master Wei didn’t change a bit. He’s still the same as ever.” He said and mounted Shuoye.
“Oh. Zewu-jun, you’re going back to Gusu now?” he asked and unsheathed Suibian, then mounted it.
Lan Xichen stared at him. “… young master Wei likes to visit Cloud Recesses?” he asked.
“Ah? No, no. I’m on my way to Qishan to visit my friend Wen Ning. He’s good in archery.” Wei Wuxian answered as they flew. “But… it’s been a long time I last went to the Cloud Recesses. I somewhat missed it. Oh! And the Emperor’s Smile!” he remembered and sighed, his long black hair is fluttering in the wind together with his sleeves.
One black and one white flew to the direction of Gusu. “Then, would young master Wei be kind to visit tomorrow?” Lan Xichen asked and smiled.
“Tomorrow? Sure. But… the Emperor’s Smile…” he said and grimaced.
Lan Xichen smiled. “I promise to keep it from my uncle.” He answered.
“En. Speaking of uncle…” Wei Wuxian said, an image of a pretty youth clad in white with a silver sword of ice and snow on his hand, and is glaring at him flashed in his mind. “How is Lan Zhan?” he asked and grinned.
Lan Xichen’s smile went wider. “This… I’d like for young master Wei to know.” He mysteriously answered when they reached the entrance of the cloud recesses. He didn’t notice they already have entered the premises. “Do you want to have a cup of tea first inside?” he added and smiled.
“Oh. That, uh – “ Wei Wuxian said as he think. “I guess I’d come here again tomorrow. My friend’s waiting for me with his nephew for me to teach his nephew archery.” He said and smiled, remembered the cute youth A-Yuan, the same age as Jin Ling.
Lan Xichen smiled, understanding. He landed on the ground and sheathed Shuoye. “Well, then… I’d be expecting young master Wei tomorrow.” He said and bowed.
Wei Wuxian nodded and bowed. “Yes.” He answered as he moved his sword. “Oh, right. Zewu-jun, earlier, who did you say you like?” he asked, curious.
The smile on Lan Xichen’s face went bright again. “That…” he said, then turned when he heard footsteps afar. “I’ll answer tomorrow, too. Isn’t young master Wei leaving now?” he asked.
“Oh, right. I’ll be taking my leave then – “ he said and flew over the mountain, only to see a white and pristine figure walking out of the Cloud Recesses and towards Lan Xichen. He felt he is familiar, and something in his heart stirred. It’s been too long he felt this feeling, and now it’s awakened he felt it’s coming out of his chest. “… Lan Zhan?” he muttered under his breath. He wanted to lower his altitude to check the person since he’s too far, but he remembered the barrier of the sect and so he could only proceed to the Qishan.
Tomorrow… he thought as a smile formed in his lips. He’ll see him again tomorrow! He thought, excited.
