After following every path he could take, learning everything he could, Stanley was no closer to figuring out his past than when he started. Sighing in defeat he slumped down onto the sofa in the employees lounge, trying to block out the narrators voice that constantly tried to control him, what he didn't expect though was the fact that the narrator was just as trapped as he was and that he felt sympathy for Stanley but, he'd given up any hopes of escape long ago. After afew moments of painful silence, the narrator decided to say something different, " Stanley?...are you ok?", startled Stanley looked up at the ceiling " This is different ...what's going on? he's never said anything like this before." He thought to himself, not wanting to miss his chance he jumped up off of the sofa and spoke to the narrator " No! I'm not ok! I've been trapped here for what feels like an eternity! I know I had a family before all of this! why? why did you take me from them to play these mind games on me!" stunned the narrator fell silent, until he looked down at the broken man and saw how distraught he was " look...Stanley...I'm...sorry." at this point Stanley didn't even know what to say, tears filling his eyes he just sat beck down and let the Narrator continue " I know...this is hard for you, but we have to continue on with the story." " The story! THE STORY! Is that all he can think about!" anger filling him, Stanley leapt out of his seat and punched the wall across from him, letting the blood trickle down in lines across his hand then finally letting his emotions take over him he broke down and fell to the floor, hugging his knees and crying more than he ever had before. The Narrator was scared now, he'd never seen Stanley like this, after a while of quietly thinking to himself he decided he would go and see Stanley "Stanley, wait there I'll be with you in a minute!" however, Stanley was too upset to hear the narrator and just kept on crying.
After a while Stanley perked up "Are those...footsteps?" he stayed silent, listening closely *tap* *tap* *tap* *tap* yep, he was sure of it, those were footsteps. He felt his heart racing as they grew louder and louder until a tall, dark figure appeared in the doorway, without even thinking Stanley got up and hugged them, he was so happy! another living being right infront of him! A pair of arms hesitantly wrapped around him as the figure spoke "S-Stanley...I'm sorry about everything...I...want to help you..." It was only then that Stanley looked up to see a man with soft silver hair and bright blue eyes looking down at him sadly. He briskly let go of him "N-Narrator?", he backed away slowly he didn't know what to think anymore, was this just another trick?... he sighed and decided to give him a chance, maybe he was being serious this time "Ok, lets start by looking around, there has to be a way out somewhere, do you know anywhere we could look?" looking down sadly the narrator shakes his head "no...I know every inch of this place and I haven't seen a single thing that could be a way out" Stanley once again felt hopeless, until suddenly an idea sparked in his head " what about office 428? that door never opens!" the narrator looks up at Stanley, a warm smile slowly spreading across his face "you know what my boy, It's worth a shot" he said before grabbing Stanley by the hand and rushing back through the building towards the office.
Once there, both men looked at the door and then at eachother " can you open the door narrator?", he looks at Stanley worriedly "no...this is the only door I can't open, the only way to open it is to...shut down the game..." Stanley looks at the Narrator confused " then why don't you do it already?" this seemed to strike a nerve with the narrator "What? I can't do that! I'll loose control! I won't! I-I can't!" " Narrator it's the only way! don't you feel trapped here?! don't you want to get out of here?!" The narrator looked down at Stanley "I-...ok...but afterwards we've got to get out of here!" with that he pulled out a device and started pressing buttons on the screen, soon after he was done the power to the building cut off, opening every door, including the one infront of them, there was a strange darkness enveloping the room but Stanley was too determined to let that scare him, he grabbed the Narrator by the arm and rushed into the room.
Opening their eyes, they were greeted with a long corridor with writing all over the walls " YOU ARE NOW LEAVING" both men stared in shock, was it really this easy? If they'd worked together from the start could they have escaped sooner? oh well, it didn't matter, they had to get out of there. Both men began running up the flights of stairs, Stanley leaps and bounds ahead of the narrator, until they reach a pitch black room with only a single light in the centre illuminating an escape pod, this all seemed far too easy but he didn't care he rushed towards the pod and stopped only to let the narrator catch up. "Stanley?...I'm not sure if this is such a good idea anymore..." Stanley wasn't about to let the Narrator quit now, he pulled him inside as the door quickly snapped shut behind him "no no no no no! I'm not ready!" he began hyperventilating, making Stanley panic a little as well. He pulled the man into a tight hug as the machine began to vibrate and hum loudly, suddenly the ground beneath the machine dissapeared, sending them plummeting down into the darkness below "STANLEEEEEEEY!"
