There's one thing I want to point out.
It's easy to spot someone is hurting when we see them with a large wound, scar or a cast to bandage an arm. Lydia represents those whose wounds are hidden because mental and emotional trauma is not visible.
People like Lydia are often called weak and pathetic, but we don't know the damage that's been done underneath the layers. They're trying to heal and life for them is survival. When they survive and overcome the biggest challenges of their trauma, I believe they are truly strong. This is often overlooked, sadly.
I wish I was more observant of friends who went through depression, anxiety, eating disorders, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Unfortunately, I've lost at least two friends who chose to end their lives.
