Jack walked into his first day of 7th grade, ready for a new year. He was a small, scrawny kid. His arms were very thin and boney, as was his torso, yet his legs were strong, due to his long career in soccer. His light brown hair was and pushed up, and his light blueish-green eyes were full of kindness. He was short, yet not the shortest kid in the grade, but still taller than many. Jack sat down in his math class, not very excited that he had it as first class. He felt tired, lacking enthusiasm for the subject, until one boy walked in. Jack had known this boy since second grade, being a brand new addition to the school. Greg was a little chubby when he left for summer after the sixth grade, but he had came back looking like a whole new person, catching Jack's attention almost immediately.
Greg was now a fairly muscular guy, at least for their age. His entire body was big, and soft, and was imagined as easily cuddled with. He had a darker shade of short blond hair, that went perfectly with his chiseled face and sparkling blue eyes. To Jack, he was more than perfect, but it seemed that no girl could recognize this.
Greg walked in and was assigned to the same table as Jack, whom he noticed staring into his perfect light blue eyes. "Um, hi Jack." Greg said awkwardly, with a slight uncomfortable smile. Right away, Jack snapped out of his daze, and quickly apologized.
"Sorry, it's just that I didn't really recognize you, you just look really different than from last year!" Jack said. "Did you work out a lot to get like that? I have been thinking of trying to get fit, because, you know..." Jack trailed off as he showed greg his noodle arms. "I don't know. Do you think that girls like guys that are fit, or just the character of the person?" He tried making conversation with him, but his words came out awkwardly and his voice had a hint of nervousness.
"Greg!" Somebody called from across the room. "Hey Greg. Over here. Come talk with us. We haven't seen you all summer." It was Nicholas calling him, beckoning for him to go talk with some other kids.
"Be over in a second." Greg said, ignoring Jack's question. Greg got up and walked away, just barely after saying hi. Jack was a mere speck of pollen in a garden covering the world. He was unnoticed by most, but in the next couple of years, that would change for a small amount of people.
After a year of patronizing Greg with his tricks on how to get more bulky, Greg began to enjoy Jack's company, liking him more as a friend and wanted to spend more time with him for their last year of middle school. And so, Jack and Greg established a friendship that was new to both of them, but for Jack, it meant so much more.
