  Seventeen Years Ago

"In five, four, three, two This is Jim Hellerman, reporting live for Channel 2 News outside of the Capital West bank at Main and Sixth," a news reporter stated, "A group of heavily armed men stormed the bank not three hours ago and took an unknown number of hostages." The man walked out of frame and let the camera stay on the giant building for a couple of seconds.

Inside the bank was a story unknown to them at the time. A man that was most likely in his forties was pointing his gun to all of the hostages and yelled at one of the other robbers, "Hey, get them behind the counter!" The hostages quickly ran behind the counter as a young girl with light brown skin and dark brown hair that looked around twelve years old. She had a mask on her face that was fully black, except for where her eyes were. That was white. He didn't notice her as he said, "Now you've put me in a position where I gotta do something I. Don't want to do." He turned around and saw the young girl and stated, "Shit! Hey get back with the others."

The young girl didn't listen. She walked closer to him and exclaimed, "I heard a rumor." The man was taken aback my this.

"What? What did you say?", he said as he had a confused look on his face. The girl, unknown to him rolled her eyes.

"I heard a rumor", she paused, "That you shot your friend in the foot." The man quickly cocked his gun and shot his friend in the foot. He had a puzzled gaze as he looked over to his friend.

"Hey, dude", the man started as he grabbed his foot, "What the hell?" The man groaned. A hostage attempted to scream, but couldn't through the tape on her mouth.

Outside the bank, the reporter looked at the camera, then the bank and stated with nervous excitement, "We just heard shots inside the bank. A man pointed at the roof.

"Up there", he cried as the reporter looked up.

"There's some movement on the roof", he started as he say a person go into the building, "Possibly law enforcement."

Back inside the building a tall, slim boy with blonde hair walked in as he pushed a man into a desk, then threw him out the window causing an uproar outside. A boy with dark brown hair walked into the building next. He held a variety of knives on his person.

"Guns are for sissies, real men throw knives", the boy stated as he threw two knives in a straight line, but switched directions to stab a man against a wall. The boy had a smirk on his face.

All of a sudden, a girl with light brown hair and a olive complexion walked into the room with her head held high. "Hey assholes", she started with a smirk, "leave some of these guys for me." The attention quickly went to her as she made a swift motion with her hands and threw three men to the side of the room with ease. She then lifted her hand up as the three men were trying to recover from the sudden movement, and threw them high up in the air. She smiled as she heard the crunch of broken bones as the men fell back onto the cement floor. She walked over to the other three children.

The guy in charge of the whole heist quickly got on a desk watching out for one of the four children that killed half of his crew. He stated, "Get back", he stopped and tried to think of an insult, but nothing came to mind except for, "You freaks." This caused the children to smirk up at him, and the light brown haired girl to quietly chuckle.

"Hey", the boy with knives exclaimed, "Be careful there buddy." The four children soon knew what was coming, but weren't sure what time it would happen.

"Get back, now", the man cried out. The children walked a little closer to the man as the darker haired girl smiled up at him.

"Wouldn't want you to get hurt", she stated in a pouty sort of voice. All of a sudden, a boy with dark brown hair and lightly tanned skin appeared on the desk sitting down.

"Or what", the boy stated giving the man an evil grin. The older man attempted to shoot the boy, but he was too late. He reappeared on the other side of the table and said with fake excitement, "That is one badass stapler." The man looked down to see what used to be his gun, is in fact a stapler. The boy grabbed the hand with the stapler in it and hit the man with it. He groaned as he fell of the table.

Back outside, a crowd started to form. "Although there's been no activity for a few minutes", the reporter started, "we're gonna stay live on location to make sure we don't miss anything."

"Do we really have to do this?", a boy with black hair and olive skin asked as he was standing in front of a vault with the other children surrounding him. The blonde boy sighed at him.

"Come on, Ben", he started, "There's more guys in the vault." The boys sighed together. Ben quickly walked closer to the door.

"I didn't sign up for this", he stated with a hint of sadness in his voice. He quickly opened the door as tentacles of some sort came out of his body and started attacking the men inside the vault. Screaming was heard as bodies flew around the room which were both dead and alive. Quickly the vault went quiet as the young boy walked out of it with blood all over his body. He mumbled, "Can we go home now?"

The hostages sprinted out of the building as the children all looked at each other. They noticed one wasn't near them. The girl with light brown hair called out, "Hey Klaus", the boy with black hair quickly walked out of the hallway, "Are you alright? We needed you back there." The boy looked at the girl with the a frown.

"Sorry", he muttered, "The voices... they were too much to handle." The brunette nodded and placed a hand on his shoulder.

"Come on, we need to get out of here", the blonde boy interrupted. The group got into formation and walked out of the bank two by two.

"People are coming out now. It's not the armed robbers." He exclaimed excitedly but also confused, "These are young school children in uniforms with mask on." The seven kids went into a formation on the stairs as the reporter came up to them and stated, "Jim Hellerman, Channel 2 News." He continued rambling, but the children weren't paying attention to what was said. They were wondering where their father was.

Many other people started asking questions, "How did you get into the bank?", a man with a microphone asked as he held it up for an answer.

    "What happens inside?", asked another.

Up on the roof sat a man in his fifties and a girl that was the same age as the other children. She has medium brown hair and dark brown eyes. "Why can't I go play with the others?"

"We've been through this before, Number Seven", the man in the monocle stated, "I'm afraid there's just nothing special about you." She replied with an "Oh" that was almost unheard. He made a motion for her to stay where she was as he walked down the fire escape towards the press and his seven children.

He stood next to the girl with light brown hair and the boy who threw knives. He looked at the cameras and stated, "Our world is changing. Has changed", he stared straight at Jim as he continued his speech, "There are some among us gifted with abilities, far beyond ordinary", he took a breath, "I have adopted seven such children", he finished by saying, "I give you the inaugural class of the Umbrella Academy."

Many journalists and reporters took photos and started asking more questions. One woman in particular asked, "Mr."

    "Hargreeves", the man said.

"Mr. Hargreeves, Channel 9 News", she quickly continued by asking, "What happened to their parents?" Many people nodded at the question wondering the Sam exact thing themselves.

"They were suitably compensated", he stated quickly.

"Are you concerned about the welfare of the children?", the woman asked staring straight at Ben.

"Of course", he started, "As I am for the fate of the world."
