Sixteen Years Ago
"Children", Mr. Hargreeves bellowed as he waited for his six kids to show up, "The mission isn't going to solve itself." Shuffling was heard all around upstairs as the six got ready for their mission. A young girl with light brown hair, golden brown eyes, and an olive complexion sat on her bed with a frown etched onto her face. It had been a month since her best friend had disappeared. A few tears fell from her eyes as she looked down at her mask.
"Hallie", a small voice muttered. She looked up and saw Diego, her biological brother. "A-Are you alright." The slight snuffles coming from the girl he saw told him otherwise. He walked over to her and sat down on the bed next to her. The boy then hugged her as he felt tears start to dampen his black uniform.
"W-Why didn't I f-follow him", the girl stuttered out as she held onto her brother like he was the last thing she'd ever touch. The girl opened her mouth to say something else, but was cut off by her brother.
"H-Hallie", he started, " Don't blame yourself for this." He couldn't help but feel bad for her. Diego and Hallie were close, but so were her and Five. The two would always get into trouble around the house. Sometimes even more trouble than Klaus. Diego didn't want Hallie to put the blame on herself. How was she supposed to know he'd run off and never come back?
"Children!", Mr. Hargreeves bellowed, "if I have to call one more time, there will be no talking at all in this house!" The two pulled away and looked at each other. Diego wiped the tears out of Hallie's eyes and they departed to the hall, where they would all meet up to go wherever their "father" sent them.
As they reached the hall, the other three children stood waiting. Well four counting Number Seven, but she never went on missions with them. She was as Mr. Hargreeves liked to say "ordinary". Hallie didn't one hundred percent believe she was ordinary, but that's what Mr. Hargreeves said. What he said goes.
"This mission, I'm afraid is more difficult than any other mission you six", he started but caught his error quickly, "I mean five have ever had." He looked to Pogo for him to explain what was going on, and what they would need to do to stop it.
"You are traveling to Vostok Station in Antarctica to acquire top secret plans concerning America and Russia", Pogo stated, "This is a very dangerous mission that can result in millions of deaths if you aren't able to get to them before the Russian's next meeting." The five children each had different expressions when they were given the news. The two girls looked scared, hoping that they would be able to save the people, but also save them selves. The boy known as Number One had a proud smirk on his face. He was willing to do anything to retrieve the plans, whether it was a life or death situation. The knife thrower had a smile on his face, but they all knew he was terrified. He would do anything to stay here with his "mother". But there was another factor in the situation, he didn't want anything to happen to his sister. The last boy, had a terrified look on his face, snow meant people who froze to death. He knows what's going to happen and he's terrified.
To not cause any suspicion with their other sister, they were sent out later that night. It would be a long flight in their jet, but it would be worth it. To be the ones to retrieve the plans, and see how they can save the world for the better. As the jet kept going in and out of turbulence, Hallie quickly reached over to Diego's hand, she had always had a fear of planes. Her brother squeezed her hand in reassurance."Diego", Hallie called out to her brother. He replied with a nod, telling her to go on. "What happens if we can't get to the plans in time?"
"Why are you thinking about that Hallie?" He questions. They haven't had a failed mission in a year. The last time they failed, the punishment was far too brutal. Everyone was completely isolated from each other for two weeks. Diego had been sent into the woods, Klaus was sent into a mausoleum, and Hallie was confined in a cabin with no doors or windows. Diego didn't know where the others were sent. They were to traumatized by the ordeals to say anything for days.
"I don't know", she replied "Something about this mission just seems... off." She inched her way closer to her brother, afraid that if she let go of his hand, he'd be ripped away from her like Five had been a month before. He was her best friend, maybe even something more in the future. That's what she had hoped for the past couple of months before he left.
Diego noticed her frown grow deeper. "Hey look at me", the girl glanced up at him, apprehension growing on her face, "Everything is going to be okay. You know I won't let anything happen to you. You're my sister, we have to stick together.""Promise?"
"I promise", Diego confirmed. He holds his pinky out, and Hallie quickly intertwines her pinky with his. Diego doesn't completely know how to comfort his sister (he's only 13 and doesn't understand most emotions), but he sure is going to try his best to keep her safe and cared for.
"Come on guys, we're about to land", Luther interrupted, and started to go into his pre-mission spiel. Hallie zoned out, having heard him go on and on about how he's number one so he gets first dibs on kicking ass or something along those lines. She only started to pay attention when Klaus elbowed her. "We're going to split into two groups, Klaus, Ben, and Hallie will go through the vents, while Allison, Diego, and I will take the ground."
Hallie's blood ran cold. Diego and her have never been separated during a mission before. Before she had a chance to argue with Luther about the groups, the plane landed and he was the first to run off, sending an "All clear" through their coms to finally get the mission started.
