Chapter 2
“Hey, you up for a drink?” Toby Kingswood, Allen’s best friend asked.
Toby smiled his famous smile, the one girls fell for all the time. He was looking at the girl at the front desk of the restaurant they decided to eat at for breakfast since it’s been a few weeks since they last saw each other. He fixed his tie, running his hand on his hair like he was trying to fix it. But that could never happen. His hair was unruly just like his personality. His eyes scanned the girl a bigger smile forming his face but he suddenly ignored it and went back to his conversation with Allen.
“So, do you? Want to go for a drink?”
“What? At-” Allen looked at his watch “Six am?”
“Yup. That’s the plan, so, you up for it?”
“Nah man, I have school.”
“Seriously?” Toby said in disbelief “Why do you spend your immortality going to school again and again and again and again-”
“Dude, I get it, stop!”
“Okay, well, why?”
“I don’t know, I just want to learn.”
“Learn what? You’re about a million years old, you’re smarter than this morons called humans.”
Allen laughed.
“I want to learn how humans think.”
“Why on earth would you want to do that?” Toby asked.
“Because,” Allen began “That’s the reason why we fell in the first place, isn’t it? To become human?”
Toby laughed.
“Oh, right.” Toby said. “I forgot the reason after giving up the years of trying to be one of them. Well, what have you learned? I mean, what, you’ve been to going to school ever since Allie - ” He stopped short “Sorry.”
Allen laughed.
“That’s fine, honest, man. It’s pathetic to apologize especially if you’re a dude named Toby Kingswood.”
Toby laughed.
“Just go to school, you asshole.”
“Oh, I’m the asshole.”
“Well, no, that’s me.” He said with a grin. “But you’re getting there.”
Allen shook his head stifling a laugh.
“Hey, I got a question..” Toby said again. “Do you,.. ever want to go back?”
He knew exactly what Toby was talking about.
“Honestly?” He said, making it sound like a question. “Yeah, sometimes. I mean, I got no reason to stay here, not since, you know.”
Toby nodded.
“Why did you ask?” He asked suddenly curious why he’d think of it.
“I agree.” He said. “I mean, I may not like it there if ever I could come back, let’s face it, it’s better here but I can’t help but miss it.”
Allen nodded. He felt exactly the same way.
“Yeah, it feels like there’s nothing left for us there, we’ve got no place.”
He nodded.
“But everything here’s getting a bit tiring.” He admitted. “I don’t feel anything.”
