Ginny

It was a great day at school. Ginny had gotten an O on all of her exams today and finished her essay in class. She was now headed to the Great Hall for dinner. Ginny skipped merrily along in the hallway. The lit torches made the light bounce off the floor.

Ginny waltzed through the huge heavy doors of the Great Hall with a spring in her step and was immediately greeted by Dean Thomas. Dean snagged Ginny by the waist and kissed her with a smile. "Well hello there, Dean," Ginny smirked.

"Hello, Ginerva Molly Weasley," he smiled back.

"Do you have to call me by my full name every time you see me?"

"I think it's endearing," his smile grew in size. Ginny felt a hard tap on her shoulder.

"Oh hey, Hermione," Ginny said.

"Really, Gin?" Hermione said, she looked angry.

"What?"

"Do you have to do that right in the public eating vicinity?" Hermione waved her hands, gesturing to the rest of the Great Hall that was staring at Ginny and Dean.

"Gin, you're being a real jerk," Ron said, approaching Hermione's side. Hermione glanced back at Harry at their table.

"What? I can't be with my boyfriend in public?" Ginny asked. She was starting to get a little heated.

"He's your boyfriend?" Hermione asked. "He asked you out yesterday!"

"So what, Hermione? You can do things your way and I can do things my way," Ginny rolled her eyes.

"Yeah, well, Ginny, you can't just fly around and wreak havoc like some loose cannon! There are other people in this universe that have feelings believe it or not!" Hermione grabbed Ron on her way storming out of the Great Hall. Ginny looked over at Harry.

"What? You're some innocent flower now who can't bear to be in the same room with me and Dean? I hope you're happy, Harry. Because of you, my best friend is mad at me!" Ginny yelled at Harry with all of her strength. Harry pushed himself up from the table and walked closer to Ginny, they were about fifteen feet away from each other. Now, the entire Great Hall was silent and staring at the two of them, including Dean. Harry's eyes were glossy as if he had been crying or was about to cry. Ginny knew he had been crying because his eyes were puffy and red. "H-Harry? Are you crying?" Ginny staggered her breathing, regretting setting off on him. She knew it wasn't his fault.

"I had n-nothing to do with this," Harry uttered, his voice was tragic and Ginny was feeling like someone plunged a knife through her stomach. She wanted to apologize to Harry and to hold him in her arms. But now, she was with Dean. She couldn't do that to Dean, the sweet guy that had swept her off her feet.

Harry turned in the opposite direction and ran out of the Great Hall, probably never wanting to see Ginny again. She wanted to run after him, so she did. Ginny tried to run. "Harry!" Dean held her back.

"Just let him go, Gin," Dean said, embracing her in his warm arms. The gigantic Great Hall doors slammed shut with the last trace of Harry that Ginny would see for days.

That night, when Ginny settled into bed, she couldn't sleep. Images were flashing through her head of the scenes that had gone down earlier that day.

***

Ginny was in the three broomsticks. It was a happy day. She sat down with Luna Lovegood in a booth to get some butterbeer.

"I know he likes you," Luna said, sipping her frozen butterbeer.

"Who?" Ginny expected her to say Harry but Luna's answer surprised Ginny.

"That Thomas boy," Luna said in her ditzy tone.

"Who, Dean?" Ginny looked around for him.

"Yes, Dean." Ginny's eyes finally rested on Dean who was giving her looks that didn't say he wanted to be just friends. It was at that moment that Ginny thought of Harry and how he was usually here at the three broomsticks at this time.

Ginny's thoughts quickly snapped back to Dean for he was approaching her table. "I'll leave you two alone," Luna dashed out of sight before Ginny could say anything.

"Hey, Ginerva Molly Weasley," Dean grinned.

***

And then Dean had asked Ginny out. He was incredibly good at wooing a lady with words. He was fast on his feet.

***

Almost immediately, Ginny said yes and was holding hands with Dean. She talked with him and laughed with him.

Then, Ginny heard the jingle of the doorbell that signaled a customer was entering the three broomsticks. Ginny's eyes snapped to the door. She thought it might be Harry. She was hopeful. When she saw Hermione, she straightened up, knowing Harry and her oaf of a brother were following behind.

Hermione met Ginny's eyes, whispered something to Ron, whose head was sticking inside the door, and went back out the door and ran away with Harry. Ginny was puzzled for a little while but then turned her focus back to Dean, the most charming guy she had ever met (aside from Harry).

Ginny really did like Dean but she knew she loved Harry. She had liked Harry ever since she was a mere ten years old. Now, Ginny was fifteen and Harry was sixteen. Ginny wasn't a little girl anymore. Harry was just a fantasy. Or was he? Ginny was never really sure if Harry liked her or not.

***

Then there was the Great Hall scene, which was the next thing Ginny thought about. She now tried to close her eyes and get it out of her head. It didn't work. Ginny's mind flashed to hours earlier.

***

Ginny walked in. Dean kissed her. Ginny felt content. Hermione yelled. Ron yelled. Ginny yelled at Harry.

Harry's face. Ginny could just picture it in her mind. Ginny shivered in her sleep. The frozen look on Harry's face bewildered her. She felt all the regret she could possibly feel. Her entire body flooded with remorse until she felt like she wasn't breathing.

Ginny watched in third person omniscient as Harry ran out of the Great Hall. Ginny had tried to run after him. She fought hard against Dean in her dreams in hopes that it would change the past. But Ginny knew nothing could change her impulsive actions. Ginny wished Dean would have let her go. Ginny wished she wouldn't have said yes to Dean but at the same time, she really liked Dean.

Ginny's emotional feelings were all muddled around that she hardly noticed that it was already dawn. Ginny looked at the clock and it was way pat dawn. Ginny was lucky if she could even catch the tail end of breakfast. All of the other girls in Ginny's bunker were gone. Ginny rolled out of her bed, tended to her hair, brushed her teeth, and paraded down the stairs. Ginny wasn't prepared to see Harry sitting on the ledge looking out the window. He didn't notice her standing there at first.

"Harry," Ginny breathed. Harry snapped his head around to look at her. He immediately started to get himself together. He picked up his satchel, straightened his tie, and ran his fingers through his hair.

"I didn't know you would be here. Sorry." And with that, Harry disappeared out of the common room.
