All I could remember was a bright light then feeling an insatiable thirst.

Then nothingness.

I felt my body ache in pain as it took all my strength to wiggle my fingers. Bringing them close to my lips and I looked at my hands, examining the paleness of my complexion. I no longer felt warm but cold.

Where am I, I thought.

I was in a wooden box.

I could hear muffled voices outside, one sounded like a young woman and a man.

They sounded angry as both yelled and bickered with one another.

The sounds of their voices echoed loudly in my ears. I could hear the birds chirping outside, a river running nearby, children laughing, the sounds of the legs of a cricket rubbing together in a field.

What's wrong with me, I questioned.

Why is everything so loud?

I groaned in pain as I tried lifting my head up.

Their voices suddenly stopped.

The sound of steps gets closer to the box as I slowly breathe in and out.

One called out, Did you hear that?

I could feel the opening of the casket door and a bright light behind a figure.

MARIA?

Maria-Katherine?

*****

Katherine- I can't believe it, my friend, how I missed you!

Katherine reaches over her and gives Maria a hug.

Maria- where am I, Katherine? I don't remember much and why am I in a wooden box?

Katherine- You've been asleep for 200 years.

*******

Maria-(shocked) What? How is this possible?

Katherine- I'm sorry Luna but you died. I had a witch bring you back. Do you remember anything about what happened?

Maria-I remember running, I was in the forest running from someone. A monster. Then falling and everything was a blur after that.

Katherine looks behind her to the young man shocked.

Maria- Katherine, who is this?

The young man just stared at her with tears in his eyes and a shocked expression.

Katherine- Luna, this is Thomas?

Maria-(curiously) Thomas?

Thomas-(crying) Mother, how I missed you! I thought I would never see you again.

He rushes to her casket and engulfs her in a tight hug.

Maria is overcome with a sea of emotions. She couldn't understand what was happening or how any of this was possible.

Maria-(to Katherine) how is this possible? If you say I've been asleep for over a century, how is Thomas still alive?

Katherine- After you died, we left France and fled to America. In order for both of us to be safe from the people that were after me, I had to drop everything and leave. Thomas asked me when he turned eighteen to turn him, so I did. He wanted to be there with you when you woke up. The witches never expected you'd be asleep this long. I'm so sorry, Luna.

Maria couldn't believe that the little boy she looked after, had become a man and turned into what her friend was. Maria had never judged Katherine for being who she was but knowing that Thomas was a vampire, she didn't know what to think of it. Her sweet boy now could only live off of blood.

She missed everything, she was robbed of her memories and of her time with him.

She'd spent more than a century in a box tucked away from the world.

Maria- Katherine, what am I?

Katherine-You're a vampire, Luna.
