Sitting alone in the mess hall during some ungodly hour of the night wasn't your ideal time waster. It probably wasn't anybody's ideal time waster. However, you got stuck there after you went to get a drink of water in the middle of the night. Rain, thunder, and lightning decided to reveal themselves not long after you got your drink.
A loud clap of thunder caught you off guard, causing you to scream. You immediately felt your face go hot as you hid behind your hands. It was no doubt that someone had heard you. Your scream wasn't exactly quiet.
Soon enough, Corrin came running in, dressed to the nines in his armor. With his Yato in one hand and a lantern in the other, he found you huddled in the corner in a nightdress.
"[Y/N], are you alright? I heard screaming."
"Yes," you replied sheepishly. "It's kind of stupid, but I'm glad I didn't wake anyone else up."
"What's wrong?" he asked, walking closer to you.
"Oh. Really, I said it was stupid. It's stupid. It's just the storm. It scared me, is all."
"Oh," he said thoughtfully. "Is there something I can do to help you?" He brushed his wet hair out of his face.
"Um... No, not really. I'm sorry to bother you with my nonsense, Lord Corrin."
"It's not nonsense. Trust me. I get it. When I was younger, Camilla would always stay with me during storms. I was scared of them too."
"Yes, but you were a child," you said. "I'm grown and they still scare me."
"It's alright. Everyone has things they're scared of. Come back with me to my quarters. You can stay there for the night. I'll keep you company."
"Lord Corrin, that's... That's inappropriate. Don't you worry that others will get the wrong idea?"
You could just barely see Corrin's face tint pink at your words. "That is very much so a possibility, but I can't just leave you alone and scared. Please, [Y/N]. Allow me to help you."
"Al-alright." You stood up, taking Corrin's hand that he offered to help you up. He began leading you towards the entrance of the mess hall, not letting go of your hand.
"On the count of three, we run. One... Two... Three!" Just like that Corrin and you ran to his quarters. Luckily, they weren't far from the mess hall.
When you arrived in his room, you noticed Corrin's pajamas thrown about the room. He must've been in a hurry to get to you.
He noticed yourself eyeing the mess before he let out a quick, "I'm sorry." It wasn't at all a problem, so you told him not to worry about it. It was you who caused him to do it after all.
Not even five seconds after his apology, Corrin mumbled something to himself. He asked you to turn around so he could change back into his pajamas. You could've swore you saw the same little blush on his face that he had before, but you decided not to mention it. You could've been rude and teased him, but that wasn't the kind of person you were.
"Go sit," Corrin said after he had changed. He pointed to a spot on his bed and looked at you expectantly.
"R-right. Sorry."
Corrin may not have been worried about others taking it the wrong way, but you doubted that he considered you taking it the wrong way as a possibility.
After you had sat, he snuffed the flame in the lantern, not wanting anything to catch on fire. On unsure feet, he walked closer to the bed. "Where are you?"
"Just here, Lord Corrin."
"Okay. I just wanted to make sure that I wouldn't sit on you," he clarified.
"I understand that," you responded.
What you didn't know was that Corrin was cursing himself in his mind. Of course you knew that's what he was doing. Why would it have been anything different?
Minutes passed in an uncomfortable silence.
Another particularly loud crack of thunder rang throughout the night. You didn't scream this time, but you noticeably flinched.
"[Y/N], are you alright?" Corrin asked.
"Just scared," you mumbled.
Corrin said nothing, but he pulled your head onto his shoulder. He set his head atop yours and put an arm around you, holding you tightly. "Please don't cry. I used to cry, and quite frankly, I don't know what I'd do if you cried."
"I won't cry," you half-laughed, leaning into his shoulder.
In the morning, Jakob came in and found yourself and Corrin lying together in Corrin's bed. He'd say he was surprised, but that would've been false. While he didn't know the true reason behind what had happened, he knew a different reason that could possibly explain it.
"Milord, [Y/N], up now. It's morning and we needn't to waste time."
Corrin bolted awake, removing his arms from around you. "It's not what it looks like!"
"Milord, I don't need to know what it was like."
"No! Jakob, stop! Get out of here!" Corrin shoved his butler out of the room before leaning against the closed door. His face was the hundredth shade of red. "I'm sorry."
"It's okay."
You couldn't help but to also be red. Jakob sounded so much like his usual self which made it all the more embarrassing. It was as if he wasn't surprised in the slightest.
That night...
"[Y/N]?" Corrin whispered.
"Yes, Lord Corrin?" you asked, wondering why the prince was in your room.
"Jakob and I talked earlier about this morning, and I guess you could say that I kind of realized something... I know it's going to sound strange and maybe a little creepy, but I liked having you sleep in my room. I liked having someone else with me, but I mean... only you. I-I love you, [Y/N]." Corrin stared at the floor.
"You... You love me? Corrin... That's awfully sudden," you said.
"I understand. Jakob just brought how much you mean to me to my attention, and I thought I shouldn't leave you in the dark. I don't need you to reciprocate my feelings. Maybe I was just being hopeful," he said, turning to leave.
"No, um, wait. Lord Corrin, I... I also enjoyed your company last night. I can't say I love you, but I can't say that I wouldn't like to get closer to you either. If it means anything to you, I want to love you. Just give me time. I'm sorry if it's inconvenient for your feelings."
"No! No. It's convenient enough for you to even want to put forth an effort. I'm willing to give you all the time you need, and... if you want, you can come back to my room with me."
"I'd like that," you said.
