Harlow looks outside the window of the moving car, admiring the beautiful but eerie view of the town, Ravensbrooke. Her dad was driving down the main road of the town, which was built with two sides of Ravensbrooke's forest. The forest trees were an amazing sight to look at, but with the pouring rain and fog, it just looked like Harlow's dad was driving down horror movie lane.
Harlow plugs out her earphones and sighs, "How much longer until we get there?"
Her Mom looks at her in the side view mirror and smiles, "Just three more minutes honey."
Harlow squints her eyes and looks out the window of the car, seeing nothing but road and forest ahead. She turns and grabs her backpack from next to her. She opens it up and grabs the school's brochure that she's never read and looks through the photos and explanations about the school.
The school looks like an old haunted mansion, with shrubs growing all around it, and the marble it was made of looking very rusted. From the photo it is very visible that the school is just surrounded by a bunch of forest.
Harlow leans her head back, closes her eyes, and sighs. "I am going to die in this school," she mutters. Everyone back in Harlow's hometown high school hated her guts for something that she didn't do. At first people showed remorse, but then they started to show anger. Enough anger to send Harlow death threats and try to kill her.
"You know Harlow, this could be the best experience of your life. One of my old friends went to a boarding school and he said he loved it," Harlow's Dad explains to her, trying to her to like the school at least a little bit.
"Didn't that friend end up in a insane asylum?" Harlow asks, her head tilted in mock curiousness.
Harlow's dad blinks at her then sighs, turning his attention back to road.
Instead of moving, like Harlow had begged her parents to, she was being sent to a boarding school 15 hours away from her hometown. Ravensbrooke Boarding School for the Elite. The school is hardly known for it's high achieving students, but more for the creepy stories made up about it.
The most recent one was about a girl named Marilyn Foster. Apparently she disappeared and the killer held a scavenger hunt with clues attached to body parts that led to her head.
So to say the least, Harlow was not excited.
"Harlow, we're here," her mom tells her. Harlow opens her eyes to see the school and her eyes widen a little bit, for the school looks even scarier and older then in the photos. Harlow grabs the brochure again to see when it was made, and in the back on the bottom it says Made in 1934.
"I am so fucked," Harlow mutters while grabbing her backpack and getting out of the car. She walks over to the back to help her Mom and Dad get her bags out of her trunk. As she reaches to grab a bag, her Dad shoo's her away.
"Go ring the doorbell, or knock, or whatever it is so they can open the door," he tells her. Harlow nods her head at him and then cautiously moves towards the front door. On the sides of the five stairs that lead up to the two large french wooden doors, are two large lions with their mouths wide open, looking ready to eat anything that comes close to them.
Harlow runs her hands down her face and walks up the steps. Once she reaches the top, she looks at the doors and realizes that they have an old fashioned door knocker on the door. Harlow reaches her hands up to the handle of the knocker and slams it on the door three times and less than five seconds later, the two large doors swing up.
There standing in front of her in a girl, who looked to be Harlow's young age of 17. She has brown hair that was pushed out of her face with the headband that the school offers. Large blue eyes and a wide smile are planted on her face. She has her hands crossed together in front of her blue plaid skirt that was apart of the schools uniform.
"Hello! Welcome to Ravensbrooke Boarding School for the Elite. My name is Étienne and I am the study body president of this school. I will be showing you around today!" Étienne tells Harlow with a big wide smile on here face.
"Your name is...Harlow, right?" Étienne asks Harlow. Harlow blinks at Étienne, knowing that the smile on her face was not real, anyone could tell that the smile was forced
"It's a waste of muscle movement to smile, if it's not real," Harlow tells Étienne, a bored expression on her face. Étienne's fake smile falters a little bit, but then instead of turning into a glare, her smile widens.
"You are so sarcastic!" Étienne says enthusiacticly.
Harlow looks at Étienne with a look of disbelief.
"Are you on crac-," Harlow is cut off before she can finish her question.
"Hello! Welcome to Ravensbrooke Boarding School for the Elite, where your daughters future will become even brighter and lighter than it was before."
Harlow became confused as to who Étienne was talking to, but then she turns around and see's her parents, so she decides to walk into the school, not wanting to see Étienne fool her parents. She looks around the dimly lit room entrance room and notices there was nothing extrordinary except for the red carpet the floor was covered in and the spiral staircase that stood in front of her.
'You see, your fine Harlow,' Harlow thinks to herself. 'You're not going to get killed her.'
Harlow heads to go walk up the staircase, but she realizes a door next to the staircase. Harlow walks over to door and put her hand on the bronze colored doorknob and slowly turns it, afraid but curious as to what is inside the room. The rusty door opens when she pulls the knob and much to her surprise, the room is a library. Harlow expected it to be a torture chamber.
Harlow walks in the room and observes it with awe, Harlow loves the book. The room has a green carpet with brown wooden shelves filled with books. There aren't chairs or tables to sit down at or no desk for a librarian, which kind of makes Harlow suspicious, but she's too distracted by the amount of books in the room to really notice.
Harlow walks over to the first shelves of books and reaches out to run her hands and right as she was going to touch the books, a voice behind her snarls.
"Why the hell are you in here?"
I hope you enjoyed the first chapter! I love Harlow, in a way she kind of is like me, but a shit ton cooler. Well at least the Harlow I have planned out in my head. Peace out.
