After i had met Ash i went back over to my grandpa tired of walking. Chris collapsed into the grass, i poured him some water and placed it in front of him before plopping down and resting my back against him.
I could see my little sister standing on a long surf board in the water. She looked excited and it made me smile to see my grandpa watching her pridefully.
"Woo go Avery!" i yelled toward her enthusiastically.
She turned toward me and immediately i watched as she lost her balance flailing her arms around to catch her self only it was of no use and she clumbsily fell into water.
My grandpa laughed lightly and grabbed the board. When Avery surfaced he waved for her to get out and he began to walk toward me.
"Hey Lex, how ya' feelin?" he asked his silver hair shining in the light as he sat beside me, his eyes were half shut from the blinding sun and it made all the small wrinkles in his face more prominent.
He knew i was going through a lot right now so he asked if i was okay every other minute.
"I feel fine, thanks" i said flashing him a fake smile.
"Missing home?"
I felt my chest burn for a second and sighed letting the pain fade into the small hollow feeling i was okay to deal with.
"Always" i said turned my face away from him. I watched as people jogged down the trail i had just walked along and i wondered if they were going through anything right now.
"It will get easier you know?" he said rendering me speechless. How could i even respond to that? Of course it will get better but right now it sucks. So thanks for that gramps.
Avery reached us shortly after my grandpa said that. She was dragging the board behind her lazily and of course, she was drenched. Her long golden hair falling in sopping wet tresses. Her electric blue eyes stood out even more so then usual due to how red the whites had become from being irritated by the salty ocean.
"Hey" she said dropping the board and coming to sit directly beside me.
The water was freezing on my skin as it slipped off her arms and onto mine. The salt burned but i let her presents soothe me.
Avery and i had always been close. It makes sense of course because we go through so much together. She had never been the strong one before, it had always been me but i had never been the loving one, that had always been her. We knew how to make eachother feel better and in times like these i felt myself being more and more fond of her company.
"How was the water?" i asked watching as her sweet 8 year old eyes lit up.
"It was amazing! Did you see me stand up! I was all by myself! Grandpa told me what to do and as soon as i was on the board i knew exactly how to do it! Its so fun out there. You have to try it, sister!"
I giggled slightly watching her excitement and nodded.
"Maybe next time Aves"
She smiled at me showing off her big gapped teeth and i smirked.
"Are we leaving, grandpa?" she asked turning her attention away from me.
"Yes ma'am, how bout' we all get our things together and go get some frozen yogurt before we head home?"
"Yeah!" she yelled hopping up to quickly collect Chris' dog bowl and all the towels. Grandpa grabbed the surf board and i bent down to pick up Chris' leash.
My grandpa and Avery had already begun to walk back to the car and just as i went to follow them i found a small girl pulling on my shirt.
"Excuse me miss, can i touch your puppy?" she asked politely as she touched her long dark hair. She had sweet eyes and looked like a tiny princess dressed in a pink skirt.
"Of course" i said making Chris sit down so that he wouldnt clobber her. Chris is a golden retriever but beside the little girl he looked like Clifford.
The small girl began to gentally touch his fur and he licked her face making her burst into a fit of giggles.
"Whats his name?" she asked.
"Chris" i said watching them interact.
"Im Ariana" the little girl said grabbing chris' paw as if she was shaking his hand.
"Whats your name?" Ariana asked me as i turned around checking to see if my grandpa and Avery were waiting.
They both stood next to the car but they were busy packing everything in and washing off.
"Oh, my name is Lexi" i answered squatting down to pet Chris with her.
"How old are you?" she asked me.
"16, how old are you?"
"My brother is 17." she said matter of fact while she starred at chris adoringly.
"Ohh thats awesome, how old are you?"
"Im 5" she said holding up her fingers.
"Oh my goodness! 5! You are like a grown up!" i said enthusiastically.
"No im not" she giggled.
"Yes, you really are!" i said laughing along with her.
"Im just a kid!" she said looking over to me.
Just as i was about to respond to her a tall thin women approached us. She had long black hair and crystal clear green eyes.
"Who's this Ari?" the women asked.
"Oh" Ariana said smiling. "This is my friend Lexi and her puppy Chris."
I smiled up at the women and waved.
"Hello" i said.
"Hi Lexi, im Tina, Adrianas mom"
"Nice to meet you" she replied kindly.
"And you"
"Do you go to school around here?" she asked reaching down to pet Chris.
"No, well not yet at least. Ill start going to Sunlake after Fall break."
"Oh! Thats where my son Ashton King goes!"
"Thats awesome, what grade is he in?" i asked politely.
"He is a senior, what grade are you in?"
"Im a junior"
"Oh okay well when you start school be sure to look for him. He's pretty hard to miss. Hes like 6'4"" she laughed
"Okay, ill keep an eye out for him"
I looked back over to the car and saw my grandpa and avery both waving me over.
I stood up and began to dust myself up before gently tugging on Chris to get up.
"Im sorry, i need to go. It was really nice meeting you both." i said smiling at them.
"It was nice meeting you too!" tina said.
"See you around!" Ariana said hopping up with her mom as i turned and began to walk away. "Bye Lexi!"
