Robin blows at her freezing fingers and rubs her hands together to bring some warmth as she walked the trail that led to her penthouse.
The new episode of Grey's anatomy was airing tonight and she didn't want to miss it. She didn't care what Ethel thought about her obsession with the t.v. show, she needed something to get her mind off of work, and if it was a soap opera about doctors, then she would gratefully take it.
She reached to building to which her home was housed and pulls out her keys from her Michael Kors handbag and enters.
She loved the smell of vanilla that her glade candles left behind from their long time of blazing.
She sets her keys and purse down at the coffee table before feeling soft fur rub against her ankle and a small meow below her.
"Hey Nestle. Mommy's home." Robin sighs, bending down to rub her cat's back. Nestle arches under her and purrs against her hand, before stretching and sauntering off to her living room.
He jumps the sofa with precision before nestling in on the corner of the cushion. That's how he acquired his name, that and he was color of chocolate milk.
Robin steps out of her heels and joins him, shrugging out of her jacket and placing it on the arm of the leather sofa.
She switches on the television, turning it to Grey's anatomy. It was replaying the episode that led up to the all new one, so Robin had some spare time to prepare.
She goes to the kitchen that was set up right behind her living room and pulls out a popcorn packet from her cabinet, placing it in the microwave. She then pulls out a yogurt and pulls of the lid, adding in a packet of granolas while waiting for her popcorn to finish popping.
She was just grabbing a spoon from her drawers when her cell phone rung on the coffee table inside her purse.
"Would you mind getting that for me Nestle? No? Okay." She huffs in frustration and answers the call.
"Let me guess. " Ethel's voice says from the other line. " Snacks while you wait for Grey's anatomy. Am I correct?"
How did she do that? Robin really wondered if she was psychic or just all knowing when it came to her? Was she really that predictable?
Robin rolls her eyes as Ethel continues.
"Of course I am, I'm always right...Do me a favor though."
Robin scoffs, spooning in her yogurt. " What is it this time? Because if it involves something sexual I'm not doing it." Robin says.
Ethel snickers. "Don't act like you didn't like it hoe . But no it's not naughty this time. Just open your door."
Robin hears a few giggles in the background, then Ethel covering the phone and shushing whoever was there.
"Ethel I'm not playing one of your little games." Robin declares in agitation. "I just want to spend time alone. "
"Open your door bitch!"
Robin sighs before shuffling towards her front door. " I swear Ethel if a fat stripper pops up from the bushes again I will beat your ass!"
" Its not that again I swear on my mama." Ethel assures, laughing.
"You swear everything on yo moms and still be lying" Robin hesitates once she opens the door, pulling at the door knob slowly, before she opens it completely.
"Surprise mutha fucka!" Ethel yells putting her phone to her side. Behind her was Sandra Brown and Aubrey Page, old college friends of hers.
Robin blinks at them in astonishment. Why were they here? Where had they come from?
" Are you going to let us in or what? It's cold as hell out here!" Sandra complains, pulling her fire engine red scarf tighter around her nose.
Robin steps aside." Yeah, come in."
All three of girls shuffle inside, shedding their winter clothes upon entry.
" I see you haven't redecorated. " Sandra notes, looking at all the white furniture and walls in disapproval.
"That's because she's boring." Ethel says, gesturing around. "Seriously Robin, you need some color around this bitch. Its sodamn bland!"
"Your face is bland." Robin comes back indignantly.
"Whatever." Ethel says, taking a seat on Robin's plush leather couch. Nestle jumps from his spot with an angry meow, narrowing his eyes a Ethel and cozying up at the foot of the couch.
"Why don't you share that popcorn of yours, loser?" Ethel kicks off her shoes and Robin grabs the popcorn bowl from the counter, joining the three of them on the sofa. They all stuff their faces with popcorn.
"So me and Sandra were thinking..."
"Don't forget me!" Aubrey chimes in.
"Aubrey you did nothing but spill damn wine on my carpet."Ethel sulks. She crosses her legs and flips her mane of long dreads from her shoulder before continuing again.
" As I was saying. We were thinking... since you won't go on any of the blind dates we set, why not start dating online?"
The three of them nod their heads encouragingly. Robin blinks. They couldn't possibly be serious! But one look at their hopeful expressions and she knew they were.
"Hell no!" she scoffs.
"Oh come Robin it'll be fun!"
Robin shakes her head vigorously. Ethel has completely gone insane. She would not date online! Lord knows who she'll end up with! Some weird artsy black man that wrote disturbing poetry, and still wore those Ne-yo hats that died in 2003.
" Sinclair, a lot of people have created successful relationships from online dating." Aubrey states, using her attorney charm and statistics to try and get Robin to comply. Robin had learned to dodge it by now.
"No!No!No! " she says with authority. Fucking hell no!
" Fuck, Robin you don't even have to put up a damn profile pic, and you can make your account private anytime you want!" Ethel insists. "You need to get back out there and forget about Darren punk ass for once!"
Robin stiffens, inhaling a surprised gasp. Ethel always threw his name randomly in her face to get Robin to comply to her wants.
" I said no." Robin declares, ignoring Ethel's mention of her ex boyfriend.
"I swear to God Robin, if you don't do this I will call Darren and tell him how much you want him back!" Ethel spits. Upon looking at 'Robin's horrified and angry expression she softens her words."Come on ! Robin, do you seriously never want to move on?"
Robin sucks in a breath of frustration. She really did need to get back out there, her friend was right. Her and Darren Chance were no more.
" Fine! " she breathes.
Her three friends clap and squeal excitedly. Robin was beyond sure that she was going to regret this sometime around, she just wasn't sure when or how.
