That night I decided to call Rose to see what was up, to see if she needed anything. But for the first time, the phone line went completely dead . She didn't pick up. She always picks up and begins to speak right away when I call. This time it was complete silence with the monotone beeping of the dead phone line. I then decided to write to her, because that was always our backup when the phone was busy. So I picked up a napkin and a pen, and began to write.

'My dearest Rose,

I've been longing for your affection daily and it seems as though you've not been able to see me. I was simply wondering if I've done something to upset you. If that happens to be the case, I'd like to formally apologize and make it up to you. Just remember that my heart is solely dedicated to you and no other woman or man. You're my whole world, my love. I long for you. If you ever need anything, just ask and I shall be by your side with it.

XO'

I took the napkin to her dog door and slipped it under, following with 5 knocks at her door. I expected the letter to vanish in a matter of seconds, like it did usually, but I'd walked by her house for five days in a row and it had gone untouched, until one day the napkin was gone and in place was a rusty outline in which the napkin once lay.

I didn't care who had picked it up, as long as whoever it was would know to deliver it to my love.
