A sharp kick to the door of his cupboard jarred Freak from his light daze. "Get up Freak!"
"Yes Aunt Petunia." A small 'humph' could be heard as footsteps moved from in front of Freak's room to the stairs above him.
Casting a longing glance towards his bed, Freak brushed a hand through his hair and climbed out of his room. Walking towards the kitchen, Freak ignored the conversation he could hear being exchanged upstairs and began working on the breakfast for his relatives. He had learned very quickly that asking questions, eavesdropping, and ruining food were unacceptable for 'freaks like him'.
Freak sighed gently as he ladled several plates full of enough food to feed an entire family out onto the table. Two sets of feet pounded down the stairs and a third, lighter set followed shortly afterwards. Freak quickly put all the dirty dishes in the sink to clean later and waited for the Dursleys to walk inside the kitchen before he attempted to leave.
"Where are you going, boy?" The big mound of flesh that was, in fact, a male human glared with small, beady eyes at the slim form of his nephew.
"I'm goink to zee library, Uncle Fernon."
Vernon sneered at the lisp in the boy's speech, but turned back to more important matters, his food.
Normally, allowing a six-year-old to wander outside unsupervised was a bad idea, but the Dursleys couldn't really care, especially with the rumors spread around the community of the little orphan boy being a wussy, a bully, and a thief.
Freak didn't know exactly why people didn't like him, but he was okay with it. Boys roughhoused too much while girls were too wimpy and nosey. Freak had quickly learned to remain in the library, as no one would tease him for his lisp or bother him there.
After a few minutes, Freak arrived at the big, public library and quietly walked inside, waving to the nice librarian lady behind her desk as he passed her. She waved back with a smile as Freak headed to the children's section. He would be going to school soon, and he couldn't wait to start learning things. He had decided to teach himself to read while he waited for school. Freak had advanced to reading chapter books, but he struggled every now and then still. The only way he had gotten so far was because the nice librarian had helped him when he was stuck.
Quietly grabbing his current book, Treasure Island, Freak moved over to a cushy chair and sank into it, opening the page to where he was last time, and jumped back into the tale of 'buccaneers and buried gold'.
Keeping his eyes on the clock, Freak sighed as the time for him to leave finally came. He needed at least half an hour to make lunch for Dudley and Aunt Petunia so it would be done on time or Dudley would be whining and crying for Aunt Petunia to hit him with something, usually a pan.
Quickly putting away his book and jogging out of the library after saying good-bye to the librarian, Freak slowed to a jog as his thoughts filled his head. Kicking a rock as he walked, Freak felt his shoulder slump in sadness.
It made Freak feel helpless and mad, having to follow everything his Aunt and Uncle said while Dudley could do whatever he wanted. Freak was always stuck doing chores and making food, and if he did something not 'acceptable enough', he'd be stuck in his small room with no food or water. Sleep was the only solace Freak had, and even that was rare, as his relatives stomped around, snored, and woke up at ungodly hours to ruin his silence. During the few short hours he could get, Freak always dreamed of being like one of the pirates in his books, sailing off to adventure, away from chores, beatings, and loneliness, but when he was forced to wake, the dream would come crashing down again. It was an endless, savage cycle, and Freak needed something to break him from the maddening 'naturalness'. School would be a good distraction.
Accidentally kicking his rock into a post, Freak looked up at the sudden 'cling' of metal. Catching sight of the time, his eyes widened in shock. It was 11:11, and he needed to be at the house. Making a quick wish as he ran, Freak implored God to give him the ability to get away from his terrible relatives, so he could finally be a swashbuckling sailor and enjoy adventures at sea.
