THE TURNING POINT
~~~
A knock on the door was what woke Ivy up. Her ice eyes opened to see her dad standing in the door frame of her room. "Get dressed. Somebody's here to pick you up." And with that comment, he left. The girl groaned as she sat up. She noticed that she was in the same clothes as yesterday. Ivy was confused that her dad wanted her gone so quickly, maybe he felt guilty for what he did? They had barely spoken the night before but she was not complaining. The girl walked to her mirror to sort out her hair. It was then when she noticed the violet bruise forming on her cheek. She ran her hands over the mark. "Dickhead." She muttered under her breath so her father didn't hear her. With great haste, she smoothed her hair out and threw on her boots then darted down the stairs.
Alfie was standing at the door to his house, eyeing up the boy that stood outside. The boy's heart hammered against his chest, he was scared of the man and the stories he had heard about him.
When Ivy reached the bottom of the stairs, she noticed the all-too-familiar ginger hair at the door. Her heart almost lept out of her throat at the sight of him.
It was a miracle, really, in the form of Finn Shelby.
Nobody said a word as Ivy walked out of the door and followed Finn back to his car. The pair got in and he drove away as fast as he could. Tears brimmed in Ivy's eyes. "Finn." She choked out. The boy looked at the girl and his heart broke. Small droplets of water fell down her face and he noticed the bruise on her cheek."Ivy, what happened?" Finn asked, concern dripping from his words. All the awkwardness that had been between them for the past few days had fallen away and they felt comfortable with each other again. Or they just had other priorities.
A sob left Ivy's mouth and Finn's hand instantly darted to hold hers in his. "Did he hit you again?" The girl nodded. "I don't know why you go back, doll. Especially when he does things like this." Finn's soft voice soothed Ivy and she calmed down slightly."I thought he had changed. Plus, Tommo and I have a deal with him," She croaked out. "Finn, how did you know to come and get me?" She questioned. The girl looked at the teen driving the car to see that he too had tears coming from his eyes. She lent over and, with her spare hand, wiped them away.
"I didn't. Not really, anyway. Tom told me that I had to come and pick you up. But I was worried about you all night, I know what your father can be like and when Tom said that you were late I knew that Alfie wouldn't be happy about it." Ivy squeezed Finn's hand, glad to have him back with her. "Thank you, Finn. I don't know what I would've done if you didn't come." She gushed and continued to stare at him. "You could say that I'm your hero..." He joked and Ivy lightly tapped his arm to tell him off.
There was a long pause before anyone said anything. The girl was going to deny it but eventually agreed. He really was her hero. He had only done one thing but it had saved her from a potentially worse beating than the night before. "Yeah, I guess." Ivy giggled and Finn chuckled. "You should try and get some proper sleep. You look like shit." He told her. "Thank you, Finn. I really needed that right now." Ivy quipped back sarcastically. "You know what I mean." He rolled his eyes at the girl. Ivy closed her eyes, trying to get some solid sleep before they got back to Birmingham. The girl still held a firm grip of Finn's hand and she never wanted to let go, not again. Joy puddled in her stomach. Although it had only been a day or two of her and Finn not speaking, it had been killing her. She missed him and he missed her. They were overjoyed to have each other back.
