One year later.

After spending a year in America, Ada and Ivy decided to come back home to England for Christmas. They were both missing their family and it only seemed right to do so. Both women had grown a lot from the experience in America, mentally and physically. However, Ivy wasn't fond of talking about what happened whilst they were there. Yes, she had good memories and plenty of them, it's just there were bad ones too. They stained her mind and they were better off buried than on the surface. Ada was aware of this too and would be quick to defend Ivy and change the conversation if needed, though she didn't know the full story, just that it pained the her and had something to do with the American girl she had met.

Ivy was looking forward to seeing Michael and Finn again. She had missed her boys maybe more than anyone, well, she missed Finn more than anyone. The girl felt like her relationship with the teen had grown a lot in the time they had spent apart. It was ironic really. They were so far apart physically, but in their heads they were right next to each other every step of the way. Their letters to each other were frequent and Finn was excited to know that Ivy was coming back. But they wouldn't be able to see each other until Christmas day because he would be busy with Isaiah the day she returned. She was sad to hear of this, but what was one more day against hundreds? At least it gave her more time to think of what she would say to him should he ask about Michael. The girl doubted he would though. From his letters, he hardly mentioned Ivy's relationship with her boss. He had either forgotten about it or just preferred to ignore it. Ivy had hoped it was the former.

Though Ivy's relationship with Finn had grown even more than either of them had thought possible, the opposite had happened with Michael. They were still close, yes, but Ivy was acting distant. On purpose too. Michael's calls became less and less frequent and he only ever seemed to call her when he was high. There was also another incident that happened around three weeks before Ivy and Ada were set to return home. She had called Michael in the hopes that he would be able to lift her spirits briefly but instead of his gravelly voice, a soft and squeaky one came crawling down the line. A girl. Michael's new girl presumably. Ivy didn't know why she was so jealous over him and that girl. She knew he lacked self-control when it came to that area so why was she acting out as if it was a surprise? Besides, the girl had Finn, why should she be worrying if Michael had another girlfriend? The Solomons had pushed the incident from her mind and never mentioned it to Michael. It wasn't like he'd remember it if she had told him about it anyway.

Ada and Ivy had to make a few stops before they made it all the way home to Polly's house where they'd both be staying for the holidays. First, the women visited John and Esme to drop off presents, next on the list was Arthur and Linda. Both Arthur and John had used their money from Tommy to buy houses out in the countryside. Ivy thought it was money well-spent, both houses were gorgeous and they seemed to be happy. Although, Arthur did seem rather cramped with Linda. She was putting pressure on him and it was clear to see. It was also clear to see that he didn't trust his wife fully. So much so that when he got a phone call, he had to take both Ada and Ivy outside of the house and away from Linda to explain what had happened.
