INT. EMPTY CLASSROOM SETTING -- DAY
JANELLE, sitting on a chair in the classroom. She's writing on a notebook - her diary. Shot from varying angles but the last one FOCUS ON Janelle's shoes.
JANELLE (V.O)
(writing getting more intense each second)
Grandfather! Grandfather! Why is it always Grandfather! Why can't it be me?!
Grandfather why...
CUT TO:
BLACK [ LAST CHRISTMAS ]
MUSIC STARTS TO PLAY [ THE FIRST NOËL ]
FADE IN:
SCENE II
INT. LIVING ROOM -- MARION'S
The song continues to play in the b.g.
CLOSE ON Janelle's feet wearing flip flops.
CUT TO:
GRAND-PÈRE MARION and his son, JOSHUA, are playing chess. LHYEMARP sits in between them, watching enthusiastically. Janelle sits a bit away from them. She uses her phone, successfully ignoring everybody.
INTER CUT TO:
INT. KITCHEN
MARIA and KEESHA are standing by the sink, chatting happily.
BACK TO:
LIVING ROOM
Joshua checkmates his dad. Marion demands how that happens and Joshua explains. LOUIS, the second son, and his fiance ZOE stop before them.
LOUIS
(Puts their bags down)
Dad, I'm going to the United States with Zoe. I will ask her parents if I may marry her.
MARION
Okay, good luck. Zoe, I hope by the time you come back, you're already my daughter.
LOUIS
Dad!
ZOE
Yes, DAD.
They wave goodbye to each other. Marion goes back to playing chess. By this point, the music has faded entirely.
JUMP CUT TO:
LIVING ROOM
SFX: CLOCK TICK
Same scene but without Janelle.
INTER CUT TO:
KITCHEN
Keesha is washing her hands in the sink.
JUMP CUT TO:
LIVING ROOM
SFX: CLOCK TICK
Marion is alone. He is putting away the chess set.
FLASH CUT TO:
VOUS LISEZ
