Please bear in mind that this is set 25 years after Mildred has left Cackle's.
Feel free to skip this if you have already read the Worst Witch books or watched the movie or TV series. This is just a bit of background on the series.
1. The main character in the Worst Witch is called Mildred Hubble and she is a student witch at Cackle's Academy. As the title may suggest, she is very clumsy and accident prone which often leads to magical mishaps.
2. Her two best friends are Maud Spellbody (Maud Moonshine, 1998 series) and Enid Nightshade. In the series, she is also friends with Ruby Cherrytree and Jadu Wali, who are in the same year as her, as well as Fenella Feverfew and Griselda Blackwood from the year above.
3. Her arch enemy is Ethel Hallow, the smartest but nastiest girl in Mildred's year. Drusilla Paddock is Ethel's sidekick.
4.Miss Hardbroom is the formidable potions teacher and deputy-head of Cackle's. She has an extreme dislike for Mildred because Mildred is clumsy etc and is always causing problems. Miss Cackle is the headmistress and she is the opposite of Miss Hardbroom - she is very kind but is still fair.
In my humble opinion, they are some of the most imaginative and well-written children's books out there. Then again, I would think that because they were basically my childhood. The first book was published in 1974 before Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone was published in 1997 and so did not plagiarise the HP series.
