"Look at him, Tikki! Adrien looks so perfect, so gorgeous, so elegant, so refined!"   Tikki watched Marinette hug the latest issue of 'Agreste' magazine and suppressed a giggle.

Well, she tried to at least.

"Tikki! don't laugh at me, it's really mean!" Marinette said as she pouted.

"Hehe, sorry Marinette you just reminded me about someone"

"Hmm? about a previous Ladybug?"

"you could say that, I guess"

"What does that mean?"

"It's nothing Important, just some old memories"

"Tell me Tikki, Please?" Marinette asked puppy-eyed.

No Marinette, not the puppy eyes! I can't resist those!

Giving into the teenager's whims, Tikki sighed "Alright, but it's quite a long story"

"I've got nothing else to do"

"Alright then. There are a few things you need to know first. Kwami were actually once human. We are from another world called Eridan. The concept of magic exists and time flows differently there then it does here. After all, your world was only just beginning when ours was already at a pre-industrial state"

Tikki paused for a moment, waiting for Marinette to let it sink in.

"I get what you're saying but if you were born in a different world what are you doing in this one?"

"To be honest we aren't entirely sure either. As far as what's known to us, the kwami just came to be one day. We don't know much except that we have a duty to protect this planet and all the people in it"

Tikki knew that her story was a lot to take in. She didn't mind answering a few questions.

"Anyway, back to the story. I was born in Sindhria, a large country with a very large population.  I lived in a luscious, agriculture-based region known as Kela. Our country was a thriving one and  I grew up in a noble household. Unlike Earth, our traditions meant that everyone was equally qualified to make a living unless you were a child of nobility. They would be made to accept a political marriage.

It worked out well for some as they ended up falling in love with each other after a while. It worked out wonderfully for my parents actually. Although this idea of accepting things as they are and being unable to change it or choose for yourself was never appealing to me.

So when I turned 15 I decided to explore the world. Learn new magic, ones from all over the planet.  I was going to run away from home, my family, friends and country. It may sound stupid now but back then it sounded like a smart thing to do.

By the way, my name back the was Kali, I was named after the goddess of death. It's funny how that turned out."

"Hmm?" Marinette looked at her with a tilted head.

"You'll see"

"Okay, I guess... continue" she urged

Tikki sighed and said "Alright, so basically I travelled out of Sindhria in a cart. I crossed the border with a little money and a few jewels on hand. It was about all I could bear to take from my home. After all, I was planning to never head back there. After I crossed the border  I had a huge problem, I didn't know how to make money. I grew up in a noble household what did you expect?

I spent my days doing odd jobs here and there and I made enough money each day to scrape by. One day through the grapevine I heard that the mercenary guild was opening a branch in the town I escaped to, Parvellon was its name."

"Hey, Tikki when you said mercenaries guild you meant it like an adventurer's guild type thing from video games right?"

"yes, I would think they are quite similar. It was a place where warriors and mages would register and come together to form connections and make good money for certain jobs."

so I decided to join the guild and make some money to see more of the world.

 Alright

I sound like such a nerd I was planning to make Kela a bit like the place where my parents grew up, Kerala. Since it is an ancient to medieval setting what better than India to head the ancient, traditional martial arts culture right? right?!?
