Kaleigh stood outside my bedroom door, rocking back and forth on her feet.
"Maddy, are you almost done? I wanted to get to the airport early! We can eat breakfast there."
She groaned, dropping her bag onto the ground. I laughed, pulling on a pair of grey sweatpants.
"Yeah, just gimme one second!" I threw a sweater on over my tshirt, trying to be as comfortable as possible. I picked up my carry on, swinging it over my shoulder.
"Kaleigh, you can come in now!" I yelled, although she could probably hear me through the door.
She walked in, practically jumping in through the doorway.
"So, are you, like, totally exited to be going to L.A?" She smiled, raising her eyebrows.
"I guess so. I mean, I'm not going to be doing anything there. Your the one thats going to school."
She slumped her shoulders, tilting her head.
"Don't be such a downer! Maybe you'll find a special someone in L.A." She started moving her eyebrows up and down, poking my shoulder. I shook my head, disagreeing.
"That's doubtful."
She groaned again, grabbing my arm.
"Well, you can thing that all you want. Now, we'd better go, before we miss our flight." She pocked up her bag again, leading me out the door.
"It doesn't leave for another three hours." I took her arm off of mine, in order to roll my suitcase.
"It doesn't hurt to actually be on time, Madelyn." She sighed, rolling her eyes. I smirked at her spitey attitude, too used to it to even care anymore.
I stood in the doorway, looking at the living room and kitchen portion of our apartment. We've lived here for the past year, me only being 19, but Kaleigh being 20. I moved in with her in order to get out of my house, and to give her some company. My parents had just divorced, and I didn't want to be around my dad's new girlfriend. She was like- put it this way. You know Cinderella's evil step mother? Well imagine her, times 10.
Pretty bad, huh?
I stopped thinking about her, not allowing anything to ruin the day that might shape my future.
Looking at the empty apartment, it made me think. I would be leaving Canada, for the first time in my life, and I may never come back again. That may be a slight exaggeration, but it isn't impossible.
"C'mon, Maddy! Wait are you waiting for?"
I shook myself out of the shut everthing out state I was in, and took a quick glance at Kaleigh. She stood in the doorway, her hands on her hip. When she realized I was looking, she tapped her finger on her wrist. I took one last glance at the empty, now forgotten apartment. Taking my car keys off of the hook, I looked out in the hallway at Kaleigh, smiling. With that, I closed the door, and we head down the stairs.

"Just water please. Oh, and a bag of those little peach fuzzy things."
"Fuzzy peaches?" The flight attendant looked at me, waiting for an answer.
"Uh, yes, please." I watched her roll her cart away, then went back to my magazine.
Kaleigh and I sat in the plane, beside an old man who kept falling asleep on her shoulder.
"Gosh. I wish he would just stop doin' this!" She huffed, pushing his head off of her shoulder once again. She accidentally pushed it to hard & it hit the window. He stirred out of his sleepy daze, looking around frantically. I tried not to laugh, looking down at my magazine once again. Kaleigh put her hand over her mouth, looking towards me.
The flight attendant came back to us, stopping her rolley cart beside my seat.
"Your water, ma'am." She poured a small amount of water into a plastic cup, handing it over her cart into my hands. She gave me my peaches, handed Kaleigh and the old man's things to them, then rolled away again. The next thing I knew, I was drifting asleep, everything around me becoming a blur.
