What follows is a transcription of a letter that I found in that hidden room.
"Vincent,
Do not follow that path. It will lead to nothing. Those letters are only a confused and dangerous jumble. I have warned you away again and again. Turn back to something rational. Your paper on polio in this city was engaging. Why are you following a trail of chalked symbols in the cemetery?
When last I visited you, I had thought you had returned to us. Your apartment was neat. No papers on the floor, your bed made. And now I hear your grades are dropping. Are you skipping classes? You must be.
I will not pay for this. Return to your classes, or return to the street.
Agnes"
It was in a box full of letters. The one above it had no relation to it. Neither did the one below.
I wonder who Vincent was or is. But more than that, I wonder who found these things and put them in the box below the city.
