I turn away from my toddler, gleefully having the time of his life on the swing set. I direct my direction towards my wife. Her bright green eyes glistened in the morning sunlight. The smile on her face instantly imprinted onto mine. Every time I look at her face I get butterflies. Every. Single. Time.
"It's so wonderful seeing our son having fun!" She said grasping my hand and rubbing it with her thumb.
It wasn't but one year before that Ian had been diagnosed with autism. It broke both of our hearts hearing the words slip from the doctors lips, but no matter his disease, we would forever love our angel.
I embraced Ruby within my arms. I rubbed her back up and down.
"I love seeing you so happy" I say as I hear her voice become shaky. I unwrap my arms from around her and lift my hands up to her shoulders. I hated seeing her have her "episodes". They would happen randomly, no one knew why they occurred, but there was nothing we could do about it.
I lean forward to kiss her lips, but before I could make contact I felt her hand grasp my chin. My head was soon about 4 inches away from hers.
"I don't want a kiss right now Charlotte," she says desperately.
I nod, but I really wish I could help her through whatever she was going through.
I lower my arms to her waist and gently swing her side to side. I was trying to do as much to get my beloved Ruby back.
Her head then gravitates to my shoulder. I could feel the tears seeping into my purple blouse. I didn't mind though.
"Do you want to go home honey?" I ask.
Without lifting her head, she nods into my shoulder. I run my fingers through her long auburn hair. I kiss her head and begin to lift her up. I then turn around to ask Ian if he was ready to leave.
My eyes widen. My head frantically looks around the grungy playground. I then run around the park, desperately yelling out his name.
Ruby runs towards me. Her voice quivering even more than before."Where's Ian?"
I lift my head to look up into her eyes. Her irises become a dark blue, almost royal blue. She instantly new what my eyes where trying to tell her. She begins to run around the park, but I quickly grab her shoulder. I turn her around.
"I've already searched"
Tears begin to slip out from my eyes now. I'm going to get my son back.
