The Angel of Paris

The ring

The birds sing as the sun rises and lets out a nice warm but cold breeze through the open window of Nicolettes home. She slowly opens her eyes but refuses to get up. The phone rings, warning her to get up before she's late for school. Nicolette quickly checks the time and rushes out of bed to brush her teeth and change out of her pajamas
"Ah fuck, this is why I shouldn't sneak out the day before school." She says as she gets her bag. She stops.
"Wait a minute... the ring." She opens the drawer and sees the black ring.
"Oh my god, it was real? But how, what the heck??" Nicolettes mom enters the room."You ready to go, I'm about to leave soon so you better hurry."
"Alright, mom. I'll be down in a minute." Nicolettes mother leaves, and the girl starts observing the ring again, this time she can actually see the ring.
"I can't believe it. So what I saw was real? I need to search this up somewhere." Nicolette puts the ring in her backpack and runs out of her room.
"Finally, lock the door on your way out, I'll be at work so when you come back make sure you stay safe, I don't want anyone here other than you." She says sternly.
"Yes, mom I know." Nicolette locks the door and starts walking to school, she meets Audre on her way there. They have been friends since the beginning, they're families know each other  very well and caused them to hang out since birth.
"So how was last night, did your mom figure out you snuck out." He gave giggle and kept walking by her side.
"Ha ha but no, what about you? Did your dad notice you were gone for about an hour."
"Uh no. I'm the least likely to be caught"
"Yeah yeah sure" Nicolette remembers about the ring and eases it into the conversation." So uhm about last night-"
"Oh I'm sorry if it's about what I said to you, looking back at it, it was weird."
"Uh no that's not what I meant."
"Oh well... what were you trying to say?"
"Last night something happened, there was a light and then a ring, I heard screams and-"
"Nicolette... it was another bad dream. I thought those were gone now."
" No. it was real. I have proof. Look..." Nicolette checks her backpack but can't find it."I put it in here I know I did."
Audre grabs her hand," See, a dream, cmon schools about to start in ten minutes, we're almost there." They arrived at the General High School Claude Monet just in time to get to they're classes.
"I don't get it, how is it gone?" She says in her thoughts as she checks her backpack once again," oh... I checked the wrong pocket.. Ugh, and I don't see Audre till next period." She walks upstairs to her classroom and goes through her daily routine in school.
"Hm I can't wait for audre next period, I need to find more information on this ring. She pulls out the ring and notices a writing on it."libérer des pouvoirs." Strange."
Bell rings.
Nicolette quickly goes to the restroom and takes another look at the ring, she reads the writings out loud this time," libérer des pouvoirs?" Suddenly the ring glows and places itself on her finger.
Nicolette starts to feel her back ache and had came to realize she was growing wings, a mask appeared on her face and her body became a suit.
"Oh no, what did I do...,"
                          Far away

"Hm, I can finally sense the ring, someone has unlocked its powers," Ataki  says to himself, in a low but loud rusted voice."Coming from France... Paris. I hope they don't mind if I take a visit." He says as he takes off to the the sky.
Back at the Claude Monet
"Shit, I can't take it off," She says struggling to take off the mask. "I can't let people see me. This will freak everyone out." She says in her head. Nicolette peeks through the stalls; she sees no one so she quickly moves out to open the bathroom door and sees the halls are empty .
Bell rings
"Oh crap, my parents are going to kill me when I get home." She quickly runs through the halls, but moving way quicker than she thought, leaving her as a blur. She hides in the janitors closet, relieved it's open."Now how do I take this off!" She says while she panics. She tried taking the ring off but it didn't work; as she took one glimpse of the ring she saw a new writing appear."restreindre," She says out loud and the wings shrink back to her back, while the suit fades away revealing her clothes she had on this morning. "Oh thank god." Nicolette felt relieved it was finally off. Now she realizes that she can't tell anyone about this, if she did, someone would report her and the government would come for her and experiment with her Brain, according to her.
She left the janitors closet but didn't realize the brunette haired girl staring at her," Are you okay?"
"Huh? Oh..I was just... seeing if no one was around, so I can leave school, because I'm skipping."
"Wow. You know you're not suppose to anyone that you're skipping school... when you're  actually skipping school."
"Oh. Yeah. I know. But you seem like someone.. I can trust!"
"Uh huh."
"Uhm okay got to go now, bye." Nicolette waves goodbye and scurries off but then gets stopped when she hears the girl say," Uhm exits that way." She says as she points to the left side of the hallway. " I'm also skipping. We can skip together."
Nicolette panics knowing that she only said that to get away from her, now the girl is offering to skip together? After thinking, she thought the best choice would be to skip together.
"Uh yeah okay sure." She said while putting the ring in her backpack.

                          Far away

"No... the ring. It's gone." Ataki says while floating above the sand. "Hm. There's still time... the ring will be unlocked again. And I will find out who has it."

                          Meanwhile

"I can tell you don't do this often."said the brunette.
"What? Psh no I do this all the time."
"Sure."
"Uhm I didn't get your name?"
"Camille"
As the girls talk and strolled around the streets of Paris, getting to know each other more and more with every step they take, they start to walk home at the usual time school ends.
"So would you like me to take you home?" Says Camille," Uhm yeah okay, I live about a few more blocks from here." Nicolette responds.
"Oh well great, I can drop you off"
"Oh okay."
The two girls walked off to Nicolettes house and said they're goodbyes once they arrived. Nicolette opened the door to her house and saw her mother waiting for her, with a frown and a serious face," where were you at school today? You missed six of your classes!"
"Mom I know! I was asked to... decorate the gym for homecoming. It took us the whole school day. The teacher said they would excuse my absence. You can ask the school, I'm sure they'll tell-"
"No it's fine. You almost gave me a heart attack."
"Sorry."
"No need. Glad that's cleared up." She continues her business while Nicolette goes upstairs to her room.
Nicolette smiles at the wonderful experience she had today," I can't believe I did that, THAT WAS SO AMAZING, I never felt more free." She said to herself in her head. She already had forgotten about the ring, and continued her regular routine, homework, shower, eat, and sleep...
