Finally, I'm done fixing my hair. I heard glass break downstairs. I rushed out of my bathroom and hit my leg on my piano as I ran out of my room. As I got to the stairs I heard my mother and father screaming at each other. Where the hell were they. Our house was so big it took me a while to finally find them. My dad was half on the couch and half on the floor. Our family photo was broken near his feet. My mom regained her composer then picked the photo up. As she looked at it she whimpered once. She loved that photo. The only one we had of us truly happy. The broken picture reminded me of our broken family.

"Hey son go to our company and fill in for me would ya?"

"Not like I have a choice."

My mom carefully placed the photo back on the small white and gold table next to the couch and turned to me.

"I'll make you breakfast how do waffles sound?"

"It sounds great mom."

She still smiled through all that pain. Honestly, she was the strongest woman I knew. Without her, I would have been a lost cause. Like my father. Yeah, she had her habits and her bad sides but she's the best mom I could ever ask for.

Unlike most teens who would be going to school right about now, I had to run my father's company while he came home after being with some women. I hated my father for that. How could he just abandon his own family?

I got a text from my cousin Luc. He was more of a party guy but what makes him different from the rest of my family was that he actually took the time to read me. He could tell I needed a break before it crossed my mind.

Luc: Hey little cousin come spend the day with me. My dad is letting me borrow his yacht.

Me: I can't I have to do grownup stuff today.

Luc: Fine but don't forget we supposed to be flying down to Georgia for a concert.

Me: Damn it I forgot. Is that why you didn't beg me to spend the day with you?

Luc: Of course not a man got to do what a man got to do. You better go today and you should leave at 1 so you can get there on time.

Me: I'll try to get done with 20 meetings by then.

Luc: Oh yeah one more thing.

Me: What is it?

Luc: I can't come.... well I can't come today.

Me: Why not?

Luc: Babysitting my adorable little house.

Me: Ha Ha very funny Luc.

Luc: Oh I'm very serious. I'll be there tomorrow. So don't miss me too much ok?

Me: Fine see you then.

I forgot all about my best friend's concert. Luc introduced us and we all became close. He was my only friend outside my family. I didn't know many people because I was locked in my house till I was old enough to start working. When my father finally found me fit to work for the company I was fifteen. All I knew was rich fake people. I was always homeschooled. I wasn't on the baseball or football team. The only person that kept me sane was my older brother.

My older brother was my idol. Then he left. I never understood how he could leave me like that. I thought I meant something to him but I guess I was mistaken. He doesn't participate much in family functions anymore. He always comes up with excuses. My mom has to beg him to come to at least one. I don't know what happened to make him change. He was everything my father wasn't. He would play ball with me and sneak me out to get ice cream. Now it seems like he is worse than him. At least my father is around.
