Chanel POV:

My brother interrupted my humming by busting into my room.

"Here."

He gave me a phone that read dad.

"Hello?"

"You called me?"

"Yeah."

"Why?"

"Just checking in on you."

That was a lie. I called him because I wanted something but I figured I should keep it to myself for now.

He hung up without a goodbye.

"What did he say? Is he coming over? I hope so I miss him so much."

My brother still believed my dad would come over. The only time he comes over is when it's my brother's birthday. Other days he would send him food which was good on my part one less belly to fill.

"No he isn't but he said he loves you and can't wait to see you."

He started coughing, "come on you don't have to lie to me you know."

He left disappointed. My stomach turned at the fact I was the reason why my family was so separated.

I finally looked at the time and saw it was past six. I need to get up to go to work. I let my clothes slip off and stepped in the shower. I let the warm water relax me.

This job still made me nervous. I only started a few days ago. Ugh being an adult is exhausting. The only thing that keeps me going is my brother. I need to make money to afford his medical bills. Which I'm so behind on.

I finished taking my shower and threw on my green and black uniform. I made sure I got everything before walking out the door. I wouldn't eat anything that cost money so I waited till my break and ate the clod sandwiches they gave us.

"Hey."

Dwight was leaning on the door frame of the employee eating area. I wiped my face and stood up.

"Hey," I said as I threw my trash away.

"Cold sandwiches again?"

"Yeah."

"You should let me take you out."

My mouth sat open as I realized he wanted me to answer him.

"Take me out?"

"Yeah what no one asked a pretty girl like you on a date?'

"A date? I just met you."

"You right, so just as friends."

I looked down at my hands. I started scratching my hands. It turned into a habit the day the police questioned me about my sister.

"Um, yeah sure."

"Tonight?"

"No, I have things to do."

"Those things will be there when you come back. Come on it will only be a couple of hours."

"Ok, I'll go."

He walked over to me smiling as he hugged me.

"Thanks, I won't let you regret this."

What do I wear for this? Will he take me somewhere fancy? I moved some clothes over and found my blue sundress. I guess this will do. I pulled it out along with my white sandals. I finished putting on my usual makeup but this time with a peach lip color instead of my chapstick.

A black truck pulled up to my house. He's early? He stepped out smiling at me. No, no don't come over here. I knew my mom wasn't paying too much attention out here but I was still scared. He greeted me with a hug.

"You look beautiful."

"Thank you."

He wrapped his arm around my waist and we walked to his truck. He opened my door and closed it. He got it and looked over at me.

"There is this place I always wanted to go to. Its called earth you heard it."

"Yeah, I always wanted to go there too."

He smiled then cranked up his car.

The place was beautiful. There were tables outside. I wanted to eat out there and watch the sky turn peach and purple.

"Over there was exactly where I wanted to eat."

He slipped his arm throw mine and held my hand. We were seated and given menus. I opened it and looked for a drink.

"For the past couple of days, I thought about taking you here. This feels like a dream."

I smiled at him.

"Thank you for taking me here."

My anxiety started to kick in. Now I wanted to go home. I wasn't going to tell him that. I wanted this for him. He was happy. Yes, I don't know him but I will do anything to make people happy.

We finished with our dinner and our long conversation about shows, helping people and, our love life. I hope he didn't notice me stuffing my face some times. I couldn't help it the food was so good.

He looked at his watch "we can go get frozen yogurt if you want."

"Oh no, I'm stuffed maybe next time."

"There will be a next time?"

I leaned on him and stepped on my tippy toes "I don't know will there be?"

I pulled away before he could think about kissing me.

"Yes, there will defiantly be a next one."

We laughed as he opened my door. I was glad I was now home now. Hopefully, my anxiety will come down now. I opened the truck door and slid out. I soon realized he was doing the same. I didn't want him to. He walked me up to the door then turned me around.

"Tonight went better than I expected. Actually, it was amazing."

"Yeah, I had a good time."

He leaned in for a kiss but I moved away from him. Before it got awkward I turned to unlock the door.

"Have a good night," I said as I closed the door.
