Chapter 3:

Amanda's POV:

"Mand," Ash asks quietly "when was the last time you ate anything?"

Crap, is it that obvious?

"Um, I don't know?" I lie, knowing the answer is the day my parents died.

Hopefully, he doesn't notice I'm lying, but I know he will.

At first, he just stares at me, then he looks at me with a "why are you lying to me" look.

I look down at my hands and mumble "since my parents died and Tyler dumped me."

He sits down and pulls me into his lap and asks why I haven't eaten.

I tell him, "There's no point. My parents are dead, Tyler dumped me that same day, and I don't understand my reason to be here. If there's no reason to be here, why try to be happy?"

I look up at him and notice he has a look in his eyes that I've never seen him have before.

It looks familiar, but I can't tell from where or when.

He hugs me tightly and rocks me back and forth.

I lay my head on his chest and quietly hum the song, "Impossible" by Shontelle.

Ash looks down at me and tells me that I deserve to be happy.

I just nod absently and he notices that I don't really believe what he's telling me.

He turns me to face him and looks me in the eye.

"I'm not gonna let you attempt to kill yourself. You know I'm not that kind of person, Mand." Ash explains.

I look down and mumble, "I know, Ash. And I love you for that."

I slowly look up at him and notice that he has that familiar look in his eyes again.

I'm about to question him on it, but he grabs a blanket and throws it over my head, fully aware that I'm afraid of the dark.

I scream and try to take it off, but instead Ash jumps on top of me and holds the blanket down.

I scream more and try to push him off of me, but he only ruffles my hair through the blanket.

I growl at him and he notices that he's gone too far.

Well too late now, he's gonna see a side of me that isn't the most pleasant.

I push him off of me and take off the blanket.

I lay on his tummy with my legs and arms by his hips and grab his phone and take selfies of myself.

I honestly don't know what else to do, so I pretend that I'm sleeping and Ash pulls me next to him.

He murmurs into my hair, "I love you, Mand. If only I could tell you to your face. I've loved you for forever."

If only he knew about the letter, I think to myself.

I slowly start yo pretend to wake up, but make it obvious that I was faking.

Ash notices and blushes.

"You heard what I said?"

I nod slightly and look at him.

Ash looks back and says that I thought out loud.

I raise an eyebrow at him and ask him what I thought out loud about.

"The letter." Ash tells me.

I try to stand up, but Ash sits me down on a pile of blankets and lays one on top of me.

"What do you need, Mand? I'll get it." Ash asks me, with the look in his eyes that is still unfamiliar to me.

I finally understand what the look he's giving me is.

It's a look full of love.

That's the way my parents used to look at each other.

That thought brings the tears withheld into my eyes.

Ash notices and pulls me into his lap, blanket and all and asks, "What's wrong, Mand?"

I mumble, "I just remembered something about my parents."

I start to get up and Ash lets me and I grab my pillow and Ollie the otter.

I sit down next to Ash, put the pillow against the wall, and hug Ollie tightly.

I lean against the pillow, pull my knees up to my chest, and hand the letter to Ash.

He opens the letter and reads it.

By the time he is finished, I'm full of anxiousness.

I look down and tears start to fall freely down my face.

I have no freaking clue how he's going to react.

I whimper and start to shake as Ash pulls me into his lap and hugs me tightly to his chest.

Ash's stomach growls and I hiccup.

He keeps hugging me and gets up with me still in his arms.

"I'm too heavy. Put me down." I plead.

Ash gives me a "really" look.

"I'm not letting you down." He starts, his voice starting to crack. "You're my everything."

I look up at him.

I wish you would just ask me "the" question. I tell him through our mind-link that doesn't exist.

I love him more than any best friend should.

Ash carries me to the kitchen and sets me on a chair.

I see my phone and reach to grab it, but Ash grabs it first and puts in my pass code and changes it.

I only know this because we did it all the time to each other during school.

I grab my phone from him and try to unlock it.

"2742"

Nope.

"1234"

Nope.

"1227"

Nope.

"0824"

Nope.

"5683"

Nope.

"8431"

Shit, I disabled my phone.

I look up at him with a pouty face and show him my puppy dog eyes.

"Can you please tell me what the pass code is?" I ask.

At first, he pretends to contemplate the idea, but soon after says "No."

Ash turns away from me and pulls out a box of pancake mix.

"I'll tell you if you best me in a pancake making contest." Ash teases, knowing very well that I can't cook to save my life.
