Lia spent two more days in the hospital before going home. If she could really call it home.

Millie was the only one talking to her.

Her mum barely said anything to her, and her dad wasn’t even living in the house anymore. When she arrived home she found a note on her pillow and she opened it, not believing that it was possible for her life to get any worse- she was wrong.

Dear Lia,

I’m missing you. I haven’t seen you face to face for a while. I think I’m going to take a video of you. I want you to lay on top of your doona cover tonight. Wear make-up. Don’t wear anything slutty- maybe a tracksuit. Then I want you to pour tomato sauce all over your throat and front. Like you’ve been stabbed. If you don’t, then you know what will happen. I don’t think I need to bother threatening you any more. You know the rules.

X

“You sick fuck.” Whispered Lia. X had asked her to do a lot of crazy, awful things before, but never had they asked her to do something like this. Covering herself with fake blood- what the tomato sauce was clearly going to represent- was just horrible.

X was getting more and more terrifying. The amount of control and influence X had over her life was killing her. Literally.

Lia felt anger bubble in her. X was NOT going to ruin her life any more. Grabbing her phone, Lia flopped on her bed and yanked the doona cover over her head. Quickly she typed in- how to get rid of a stalker.

Sites sprang up and Lia scrolled through them before coming to a promising site.

Tips on dealing with stalkers…

As you make your way through the day, learn about places and times that might be potentially dangerous. Stalkers are usually very smart and plan carefully when they want to make contact with the victim. Remember that most stalkers have a high opinion of themselves and don’t feel they are wrong in what they do. This is often due to the obsession, which clouds their judgment. You may want to consider getting a medium-size or large dog that can be your constant companion. This will help deter a potential stalker.

“A dog, huh?” Lia murmured to herself. Shrugging, she exited the site, wiped the Internet history on her phone and threw off the doona. She dressed quickly in jeans and a hoodie, then found the fake I.D. Brittney had created for her so long ago.

She walked quickly to the bedroom Millie and Courtney shared and called out, “knock-knock!” Millie threw open the door and wrapped her arms around Lia.

“Lia!” she squealed.

“Go away Lia!” Courtney shouted from her bed.

Lia and Millie shared a bunk bed and a desk, but both had separate closets. Millie also had a toy-chest. “Don’t go away Lia! Stop being mean Courtney!” frowned Millie.

“She’s the reason daddy’s gone!” Courtney screamed, her face red with rage.

“No she is not!” yelled back Millie.

Lia knelt in front of Millie, ignoring Courtney. “I’m going to the pound to buy a dog. Do you want to come?” she asked the little girl. Millie’s face lit up with enthusiasm.

“Yay! Let’s go!” she squealed.

“Mum won’t let you!” shouted Courtney. Lia stood up and flashed a smile and her irate little sister.

She wasn’t putting up with Courtney’s shit anymore. Hell, she wasn’t putting up with ANYONE’S shit! “Guess what Courts? I don’t give a fuck. I’m almost eighteen and I’m buying a dog.” Millie giggled,
