18 years later.........
(Monica's P.O.V.)
Moving the paintbrush on the canvas, creating a spectaular scene that was part of my dream. I let go of the brush and rest my head against the wall. Breathing deepily, I stop and think for a moment.
What if I don't get in? What would I do with my life after all of this?
I applied for a Performing Arts Boarding School, so I could live my dream and become a artist or singer. It's not just a Performing Arts school, it's also a school for people that want to be heard. For people who gets a chance to live their dream. Art is my passion but singing is a gift.
I hear a soft knock on the door, allowing me to stand up and open it. I turn the knob and see my mum with a bright smile on her face. This is one of the reasons why I adore her. She's so positive through the toughest times.
"I got this for you," she says, giving me a piece of paper with red words on the top saying, 'Congratulations.'
Congratulations? I scan the paper and it says that I passed. I passed?!
I start jumping up and down yelling, "I passed! I passed!!!!!"
My mum jumped too. Her and I both hugged each other, still whispering, "I passed! I passed!"
"Congrats, Honey! Oh, my baby girl is grown up all ready." Tears start forming on her eyes. I wipe them with my thumb and hug her again.
"Don't worry, mum. I still have two more days left." We both laugh and run down stairs to the kitchen.
My mum lets go of me and gets a bag.
"Here you can take this," she rolls the bag to me. A confused face appears.
"You packed for me? Do you want me to leave early?"
"No, silly, I packed so you don't have to do it," she chuckles.
Well I'm going to miss her.
//Two days later. In the Airport//
"Flight 56B is ready for take off."
I take the seat belt and lock it together, taking the headphones and placing it on my head. Listening to whatever is on my playlist. Oath by Cher Lloyd came up. I start humming, not wanting my best friend, Olivia, to wake up.
She's been my friend since 2nd grade. She's funny and amazing. We're sisters for life.
I close my eyelids and press a small button near the remote to make the seat more comfortable.
I woke up, seeing a flight attendent giving out food. When she came by, I simply said no. Now back to sleep.
All my life, I've been that rebel. I never told my mom that I cause trouble at school. I alway tell my mum that I want freedom and she would understand me but not everything I do. I would love to see my dad but she said he is died.
She says that I look like him especially the eyes. I never saw him before not even one picture. I sometimes hear my mum cry. When I was 10 she would cry herself to sleep. I don't know the reason but it's probably because of my dad. I do miss him even if I don't know him.
"Arriving in 5 mins."
I wrap the seat belt around my stomach and lock it, hearing a click. I slowly shake Olivia to wake her up.
"Olive, wake up," I shake her shoulder. She groans and open her eyes. Her beautiful red hair looks messy as ever.
Olivia got in beacause of her acrobat skills. She's really good at it.
"What happened?" she questions me in a tired tone.
"We're about to land," I reply, sticking a piece of gum in my mouth, chewing it throughly. I gave her gum and she chewed it.
I feel the plane landing, like a roller coaster falling down. Everyone from the front leaves first. I take my bags and carry it between the chairs. I roll it and proceed on walking down the row.
I smiled at the flight attendences and make my way to the exit.
"I can't believe that we're at New York," Olivia says, while we walk to the exit.
"I can't believe it too." I used to live in South Shields, now I'm living at New York. Starting a new life with my best friend, having the freedom I've always wanted.
We waited for the taxi to arrive, by sittting on our bags patiently. I check the time from my phone. It's 12:35 pm. Just in time for the orientation, which begins at 1:00 pm.
The taxi finally came. The driver took our bags and settled it in the back, while Olivia and me enter the taxi. I smell of cotton candy lingers in the air. It is probably the carfresher.
The driver began driving. I stare out of the window, looking at the city. Such beauty settled around this place. I'm really loving it so far.
The taxi drive was quick. I checked the price and gave the money to the driver.
"Thank you," I smiled.
I lifted my bags up and dropped it down on the ground. I sense this feeling that something unexpected is happening. It gives me shivers.
A group of girls and guys gather around a large building, which is the school. Following the crowd of people, a lady, wearing a office suit, stands on a stage with a microphone on her hands.
"Welcome, everyone! This year is going to be blast seeing many wonderful faces. I would like to knowledge that a problem has occurred." A bunch of people, with confused faces appeared from behind me.
"The school was going to only take 500 of you. Seeing 1,000 is quite hard to choose which will pass. I am very sorry, but we have to hold auditions again. I am very sorry. That is all, but please everyone come in."
What? Only 500 people? How could the school do this? I slowly start following the line of people.
A person behind me pushes me and I fall on top on someone. A person grabs my hand and pull me up. The person that was on the bottom of me ran away. Weird?
"I am so sorry-" I scan the person in front of me, who pushed me. She look exactly like me but her hair.
"You-"
Now this is so unexpected.
