The next day I woke up late and decided to go ride Harvey. I pulled on some navy breeches and and a polo, then headed down stairs to grab some breakfast.
Mum was cooking bacon and eggs, the delicious smell wafted over to me making my mouth water.
"Oh there you are, finally woke up did we?" mum said cheekily. I rolled my eyes and sat down at the bar stool. She pushed a plate in front of me and I started scoffing it down. What can I say, I looooove food.

"Hey Mum Im gonna go ride Harvey, be back in a couple hours!" I called to her as I left the house.
"OK, see you later!" I heard her yell back. I pulled on my riding boots and jumped in my truck.
When I got to the stables I ran to Harveys stall excited to ride.

I pushed Harvey into frame and he took up the bit nicely. We cantered round and since he felt good today I decided to do some gridwork.
Tommy, the head groom of the stable, was standing watching me, so I asked if he could set up a few jumps. He put out a double and two verticles.
"Thanks Tommy." I said as I rode past, and smiled at me. That made me smile back.
I refocused onto Harvey and rounded a nice bend to line up for the vertical. One, two, three and up! He flew the fence and landed lightly on the otherside. We continued to the double and I looked up ahead as he bounced over the element. Harvey finished over the second vertical as if it wasn't even there and I gave him a slappy pat as he cantered around the arena.
I glanced Tommy's way and he was quietly beaming with joy. I laughed at the thought of it and carried on riding.

After putting Harvey away in his stall I went to find Sam.
"Heyyy!" I called in a singsong voice, as I walked into her office. Sam smiled at me and said in a sarcastic tone, "Well everyone knows its you when you walk in the room."
I cracked up laughing at the joke and we sat down and had a chat.
"So, I was looking at upcoming comps and I found the perfect one for you and Harvey." Sam said excitedly.
"Oooo, details please!" I sat forward in the seat a bit, suddenly really interested.
"OK so its next weekend and dont worry about it being so soon because Harveys looking great. Its show jumping, obviously, and the heights are 90 to 1.20m. The entries do close tomorrow so will need an answer soon and I do want to get a few lessons in with you, that's if your interested. So what do you think?"
"Yeah, I'll definitely do it. And heights wise, I was thinking maybe 1.00 and 1.10?"
"Sounds good. Are you free tomorrow I was thinking maybe... 3o'clock lesson?"
"Yep, I'll be there."
"OK see you then."
"Thanks." I said as we got up I gave Sam a quick hug and then left, driving home in happy spirits.
Until I realised I still hadn't told my parents about getting fired...

A bit later on I was sitting in my room playing on my phone when mum called my name. I trudged down the stairs wondering what she wanted.
"Oh there you are." mum said as I walked in.
"What did you want?" I asked, a bit inpatient.
"Uh, dinners ready." she said to me as if I already knew it.
"How its only..." I looked at the clock on the wall and it was already quarter past six! "Oh right, don't worry then."
Mum let out a laugh and asked me to set the table. I lay out the knives and forkes and decided that tonight when dad got home I would tell my parents about my 'job'.

About 20 minutes later dad got home and we sat down for dinner. I dont know why but I was so nervous to tell them. C'mon Dani pull yourself together and just say it! I told myself.
"Mum, Dad I have something to tell you." I said in a slightly uncertain voice.
Mum looked at me horrified for a second, "You're pregnant?!" She burst out.
"What?! No of course not!" I answered shocked. I swear I heard dad sigh with relief.
"Well what is it then?" he asked. I was still a bit stunned from mums outburst. "Uh, its about work."
"Oh dear god." Mum sighed. I'm pretty sure she already knew what was coming.
"Well?" Dad ushered for me to continued.
"Umm, well..." I suddenly felt the urge to throw up, but I squeezed my eyes shut and said it as quickly as possible. "I was fired."
I kept my eyes shut not wanting to look at either of them but I heard my dad clear his throat and very slowly I opened one eye. Mum sat gobsmacked and dad had his head in his hands. Finally he broke the silence, "Really Dani?" he sounded pissed.
I nodded slowly and mum shook her head. "Why, and uh how?" she asked. I handed over the papers Sarah had given me, and I sat feeling internally sick as they were read over.
"Oh Dani, will you ever learn?"
"You have to be willing and committed to the job."
"You can't just throw away these opportunities."
"This is the third time in a row now."
"We are very disappointed in you."
The comments were fired my way and it felt horrible, my parents were genuinely disappointed in me and not to mention a little pissed off. As they were the ones that helped me get the job in the first place, especially dad.
"I'm so sorry, it won't happen again." I said hopefully.
"Like we haven't heard that before." my parents said, mum rolled her eyes.
"To be honest with you I didn't like that job, I mean I'm very grateful that you guys helped me apply and I got some pay from it, but it wasn't right for me. I just need some more time to..."
"Yea sure Dani you can have as much time as you want because this is the last straw you are 18 years old when are you gonna learn!?" dad half shouted my way.
"There has to be consequences for this, you're grounded for a month. That also means no riding." mum added.
"What the hell?! You can't do that, I have a competiton next weekend and I can't afford to miss it!" I shouted, now I was pissed off.
"To bad, you should have thought about that before you went and got yourself fired." Dad replied harshly.
"Ugh! That's not fair I only found out I was going TODAY!" I yelled.
"Dont raise your voice at me young lady, you know bloody well why this happened and you knew the consequences. So suck it up and stop acting like a child."
"You're the one being a child." I muttered under my breath.
"What was that?" Dad asked angrily.
"Nothing, why would I tell you?!" I shouted right at his face I don't care about the glare mum gave me or that I shoved back the chair so hard it crashed to the ground. I just stood up and stomped upstairs, slamming my door as hard as I could.

After calming down a bit I thought over what just happened. It was so unfair! They wouldn't stop me from riding, especially when I had to train for next weekends competition. I didnt mind being grounded, but not letting me ride? That was just fucking cruel! I stood up and paced my room. I had to ride there was no way I couldnt.
I suddenly an idea. I would just lie. This would be easy, I would just say im going for a bike then go to the stable instead, it would work perfectly because I like to keep fit and I go for bikes often enough. But then a thought flashed across my mind. If I'm grounded it means my excuse to go for a bike might not work! Ugh, this was usless! But i had to try, im talking about getting to ride here. I forgot the negatives and worked out a plan. Then I  texted Sam again saying that I would defiantly make tomorrow's lesson. Than it went to bed still scheming my evil plan. I mean, what was ever wrong with a little lie?
