We drove for what seemed like hours. I had glanced at the clock and it was 4:23 am. We got in the car at about 2:15.

"E, where are we going." I asked curiously it had been over an hour and we should be at one of our houses by now but instead we were far from this city. "Are you plotting to murder me" I say with a small giggle.

"No, I am not planning to kill you, and I am just driving around. I know how much you like to drive." He said with a small smile, pure genuine in his eyes.

"H-how did you know" I stammered surprised he knew

"I didn't always hate you Chambie, I know a lot more about you then I think you know." He said smiling adorably.

"Ha right, tell me random facts about me if you know so much" I said with a sarcastic laugh.

"Fine! I know you are in love with Iced almond milk lattes, you have two dogs and a cat, your star sigh is a Gemini, you love vegetarian sushi from Asian Box and your upset they don't have one in New York, your a fantastic tumbler, your extremely bad at playing the chello and your favorite subject is Science." Ethan said his eyes widened in amazement that he knew so much as was I.

"H-how, what? You literally hate me! How does someone who hates me pay so much attention?" I said sorta scared about the situation. Not knowing what to do.

"I guess I liked you more than I let on." Ethan mumbled.

"Oh did I just win the bet" I say in a teasing manner to try and relieve the awkward mood.

"Ha you wish Chamberlain!" He said with a laugh.

"We really need a code word" I said randomly.

"What do you mean code word?" Ethan asked curiously

"Like it one of us falls for the other. We have a code word because it would be kinda be weird saying 'Oh yeah I love you'" I say with a laugh.

"Serendipity " Ethan said.

"Serendipity ?" I asked confused.

"Our code word, Serendipity , It means finding something good without looking for it. So if one of us falls we say Serendipity " Ethan said confidently as we pull into some kind of empty lot overlooking the city of New York.

"Deal" I say with a small laugh smiling up at Ethan. He smiled back as we get out of the car and walk to the bench over looking over the beautiful city that is New York. We sat there for a while, not saying anything just sitting, quietly.

"This doesn't mean I like you, I still hate you, just a little bit less." I say with a small laugh leaning back into the bench.

"I know Chamber-bitch I know" Ethan said with a snarky tone but was just trying to hold a laugh back.

"Hey! Don't even with that Demon spawn" I respond with a laugh.

"You started it whore" Ethan retorted laughing.

"I'm the whore!" I yell with a voice crack laughing. "Aren't you Mr. "Meredith was my fuck buddy all of high school and I have hookups every weekend" I say again putting air quotes up.

"Touché but I can help the Meredith part she's hot!" He laughed which dropped my mood slightly.

"I'll give her that but she is a total and complete bitch! Do you remember anything from high school?" I ask slightly laughing.

"She wasn't always a bitch, she was just... confused is all." He said kinda protectively.

"Why are you protecting her? She cheated on you repeatedly in high school even when you you guys were official." I asked my mind unable to comprehend why he would protect such a bitch.

"Because! She isn't all that bad Emma she may have made mistakes but it doesn't mean she is a total and complete bitch unlike some people here." Ethan lashed back angry.

"Excuse you! Your the one who fucked up my entire fucking High school life along with that bitch! You of all people should know how poorly you all treated me!" I yelled standing up so I looked down to Ethan. He just sat there not saying anything. "Ugh I am seriously regrettingY this mother fucking bet! You are literally a demon spawn Dolan!" I continue and he continued to not say anything he just looked down at his feet. "Lets just go I'm exhausted and gunna have a horrid hangover tomorrow. Plus I need to some how convince Ellie of this us" I say putting air quotes around 'us'. 

"Why would it take time to convince Ellie about us. Just tell her what we have told everyone else." Ethan stated as if it was that easy.

"It's not that easy Ethan. She was my person all of High school. The person I would go to when you did something to fuck my life up a little bit more. Like when you would take my homework and then I would lose the points for it that day or when you took my phone and broke it knowing damn well I don't have the money to replace it. I went to Ellie. Hell she got me a new phone once after you put mine in the sink in Home Ec in the end of freshman year." I stated to him as I walked back to his car. Ethan jogged up to me unlocking the car. I quickly got in slamming the door shut automatically turning towards the door resting my head on the window. 

"I'm sorry Emmy." Ethan said. Those words. I have waited to hear for 9 years. It was like music to my ears.

"Why are you just now finally sorry. After I explained it to you." I ask not being able to understand why now.

"I had always been sorry, this isn't the first time I have told you sorry." Ethan said eyes glued to the road..

"What do you mean?!" I asked raising my voice. "You didn't apologize for saying I wasn't good enough. You didn't apologize for breaking my stuff, or making me want to kill myself all of sophomore year. You never apologized." I say tears on the verge of falling.

"Remember that time in junior year. You had broke you leg after a cheer competition. While you were in surgery to get that rod put in I was in the waiting room the whole 4 hours, waiting to know if you were okay. Though I didn't like you, I knew I never wanted to see you hurt. When the nurse said you were out of surgery I ran into your room. Grayson and Ellie were in the cafeteria. I went to your room. You were still asleep, I went to your side and apologized. For everything. Never wanting to think of you not being here anymore." Ethan said not taking his eyes of the winding road. I continued to sit there not processing what he just said.

"Then why did you continue to be a jackass." I ask.

"I didn't. I did still make fun of you, but did you ever notice that Meredith didn't come up to you in senior year or at least as much. Did you notice I didn't take your homework." Ethan said and I finally realized maybe he wasn't lying though he wasn't right about the Meredith thing. It was actually worse but I did notice it wasn't around Ethan. Though I wouldn't tell him that. That was a mistake. Not telling Ethan of his Ex's harassment. Maybe if I told him about senior year what happened a few months later would never happen, but I'm getting ahead of my self. For now I just stared at Ethan in amazement as we drove back to his home in New York. Letting everything he had just said sink in. Was Ethan really a bad guy. Or was he just a idiot who can't express himself. We had finally pulled up to his parking spot at his apartment.

"Ethan?" I asked.

"Yeah?" He said.

"Thank you." I said smiling at him.

"Of course Emmy." He said finally looking at me with a small smile. In that moment I forgot about ever fucked up thing he had done, the bet, Ellie. It was just me, him and the moon.

(Authors Note: Sorry I didn't upload last week! I was hella sick and I could barley sit up with out dying. I hope this chapter gave you some insight on what Ethan and Emma were like in high school and added new suspense to upcoming chapters)
