Earth in 200 years

A wasteland. That's all Earth is now, but not what it used to be. The ancient ones always say it used to be full of green and life. Not really peaceful, but more peaceful than now. Now, all the land is a yellow slab, formed due to years of mistreating it All green, now browns and oranges. Life, almost extinct. Two hundred years was all it took for this change, two hundred years. It doesn't seem fair that we never got to see it. It seems like a magical time, almost like a fairy tale, like Snow White or Cinderella. We only know these tales because the ancient ones kept them alive, but hardly anyone remembers the real story anymore.
Letting out a deep sigh, into the now broken silence, I take another step forward the supposed lost city, that might have something left, if only rat for the fire. I switch my blue eyes to the right of me and see Angelica staring back at me with concern in her eyes. I lift my eyebrows, in a question of What? She pointed to the left of me, the silence back to not being broken. I looked to my left this time and saw Ash, looking like he had been bitten by a radioactive rat. Utterly destroyed. I signalled to Angelica to go ahead to give me some time alone with him. She gave a slight nod, with one final concerned glance before walking off.
I slid closer to him, chucking my arm around his shoulder. "Hey, birdbrain what's wrong?" I asked, making him glare at me. It didn't have as much bite as usual, something was definitely wrong. He shrugged me off, before mumbling something under his breath. I just gave him a look of Really? Mumbling. He gave me a soft smile before it dropped as he gave the answer again. "Today is the day. The day the accident happened." That was all he said, but my whole mood changed in an instant. My fake smile dropped as I remembered, the only thing I didn't want to do.
I bit my lip emotions not exactly being my thing, but I've known Ash my whole life. I had to think of something. In the end, I just decided pretending to be optimistic was the best call. It's what we do all day everyday anyway. "Well, I mean if we ever reach this lost city maybe we could get you a present, yeah? Maybe some bird food for that bird brain of yours?" I joked, making him give a quiet laugh, and me sigh in relief that he finally smiling.
We caught up with Angelica, and she looked with a question of What happened? I just waved my hand at her to signal that she shouldn't say anything.
We just kept on walking, the landscape staying the same, the sun burning into my back overhead. My mouth dry as sandpaper, begging to God for a drop of water, if he even existed. No trees to hide from the original fire from years of greenhouse gases and pollution. No mercy on us mere scavengers who were left. Nothing at all.
My knees ready to collapse as I stared into the hazy landscape in front of me, while it stared back at me with just as much hatred. I closed my eyes against the sun's glare, taking a few steps yet again into the wasteland.
The wasteland we call home.

So this is something I wrote for my English language mock paper and I hope you enjoy it because I'm actually really proud of it. So enjoy.
