When Obito and Kri entered the office, an envoy from the Mist was waiting for them. The morning light hurt Kri's eyes. She had not rested at all for over a day. Obito smiled at her, his unmasked eye closing in sweetness. He understood her trouble with it. She wasn't trained like he was.

"Lord Sixth." He addressed Kakashi, crossing the floor and handing him the blood stained scroll. Kakashi took it and smiled back.

"Your scroll is retrieved, and I am entrusting it to you to return it to your village." He handed the scroll to the Mist Ninja who thanked him on behalf of his Kage. "A Leaf ANBU squad is waiting for you downstairs. They will escort you to the border of the Land of Fire."

"Thank you, Lord Hokage." The Mist Ninja bowed and left the office. The silence was stiffening.

Kakashi spoke first. "I have informed the Mist that our weaponsmith found the scroll on a old friend and had the courage to steal it to send it back to them."

It wasn't quite the truth, but neither of the two said a word. He continued, "So is our rogue ninja dispatched?" Obito nodded, gripping Kri's hand a bit tighter. She returned the jesture. None of this escaped Kakashi. "Well, I suppose it's all behind us now."

"I-" Kri went to apologize, but both Kakashi and Obito raised their hands to stop her. Strange how they acted like one.

"Take the day off. It's been a long night." Kakashi instructed them, waving them out the door.

How they ended up at Obito's room and snuggled up in his bed, they didn't really remember. Perhaps it was the combination of fatigue, proximity of his place to the hokage building, and her jitters from being targeted that all came down at once to land Obito a perfect excuse to just be alone with her.

He buried his face in her dark hair, the smell of sweet coconut and vanilla bringing back memories of their times together before all this crazy happened. She shifted in his arms adjusting her twisted shirt under the covers. He knew she was tired and yet the woman wouldn't sleep. He kissed her head and rubbed his thumb on her shoulder skin softly.

"...was any of it real?" Her voice trailed through the air. Obito shifted.

"What do you mean?"

"Tobi. Me. Us before you broke up with me. Was any of it real?" He paused to ponder.

"... most of it.." he felt her squirm a bit, "The important things were." He pulled back and caressed her face with his discolored hand.

"I loved you already then. I was just too scared of what you would think of me." He admitted. She looked up at him, her blue eyes searching his uncovered face. Her lips met his, a sweet kiss, her hands planted on his bare chest.

"I think.." she said, rolling him onto his back and laying partially on top of him. "That you do the best you can for your village. That you love Kakashi more than anything. That your darkness is only big and dark because your heart is made of light." She kissed him again, his face met hers with a soft expression. Gratitude.

"I love you. I will always protect you." He ran his fingers through her hair, pulling her in for another kiss.

"Do you.." she started to ask, a bit shyly, her fingers lightly touching his chest. He thought he had been tracking the conversation pretty well, but now she had him confused. "Can I love you?" She asked, a blush crossing her face.

"Don't you already?" He asked, a bit lost now.

Kri shifted a bit, uncomfortable in the conversation.

"I do. But.. that's not what I meant." She looked up at him, expectantly.

"Then what do you mean?" Obito's face must have explained it all. She bit her lip and trailed her hand down running her fingers along his thigh on the outside of his sweatpants. He froze under her touch.
