One day, I found myself face to face with Draco Malfoy. We were going opposite ways on the stairs, but we were by ourselves. He glared at me as he walked past and I hesitated for a second.
'Draco,' I said and he froze, turning to face me.
'What do you want?' his voice was scathing.
'I just... thank you,' I said.
'For what?' he acted impatient, but seemed intrigued.
'I... I remember all that happened,' I said, slowly, carefully, 'Remus had erased it all, but it recently came back. And I remember what you did for me. I owe you, thank you.'
'You don't owe me anything, Black,' he said, his normal voice replaced with a gentleness I hadn't heard before, 'I figured you didn't remember, otherwise your reaction to me would have been different. But you don't owe me anything, as any good I do to you cannot make up for what happened. It won't make up for any of the treatment you received.'
I stared for a second before smiling softly.
'Shall we call it even then? Go back to how it was before this conversation?' I asked.
'Whatever, Gryffindork,' he grinned slightly before walking away, making sure our little chat was not witnessed.
The next few days, pretty much every girl minus me and Hermione was flirting with Krum.
'God,' I sighed as we passed Krum's fangirls.
They shot me a dirty look and me and Nico burst out laughing. We were going down possibly the highest staircase in Hogwarts.
'Race ya!' said Nico and we ran down the stairs.
There was a group of Slytherins on the stairs and one of them stuck their leg out to trip me up when I ran past. I tripped over their leg and flew over the bannister. I started to plummet towards the ground. It had seemed miles away but now it was getting closer and closer. Several people screamed as they saw me pass but no-one used any spells to break my fall. I could hear Nico yelling my name from up above but he couldn't help me.
I hit the ground and every inch of my body was in pain. It was unbearable. I opened my eyes slightly to see a congregation of people surrounding me.
'Molly!' yelled Nico, who had flown down the stairs, 'Get Madam Pomfrey!'
A sixth year Hufflepuff ran away, probably to get Madam Pomfrey.
'Can you hear me?' asked Nico.
I tried to reply but my mouth couldn't form the words.
'What happened?!' said another voice. It was Josh Freeman.
'She fell down from all the way up there!' said Nico, pointing up to where we had been moments ago.
'Move!' boomed another voice. It was Dumbledore.
Dumbledore, McGonagall, Flitwick and Madam Pomfrey all rushed to my side. Flitwick performed a charm to lift me up into the air and took me to the Hospital Wing. Nico came with us and explained to Dumbledore what happened. He sent McGonagall to go get the Slytherins and left Madam Pomfrey to fix me.
'Now,' she said and started to mutter spells.
I felt better when she was done. I was still in serious pain but I could speak now.
'Thanks,' I said in a hoarse whisper and she nodded and left.
The door suddenly burst open and Remus came in, looking furious, with a big, black dog next to him. The dog looked as furious as a dog could look and, as soon as it saw me, it ran and jumped onto my bed. Pomfrey gave it a disapproving look but said nothing.
