I held my gun firmly. I walked to the edge of the wall at the corner. I peeked at the next hall. There was no one. I walked deliberately. I was trying my best not to make any noise at all with my footsteps. I could barely see anything.. There was only one light I was able to see at the end of the corridor. I walked closer and the light I was seeing became clearer now.
It was a light bulb. It was shining harshly bright on top of a door. I reached for the handle of the door and twisted, but it didn’t budge. I analyzed the door closely. It was metal probably thick enough to block out sound, but what was in there? I stepped back as the bulb of light sparked and popped. Glass fell on my head cutting my forehead. I was in complete darkness now. I walked blindly towards the wall. My hands touched the cool stone as I shivered.
I didn’t realize how cold it really is in here. I followed the path of the right wall until I met a corner again. Squinting in the darkness I looked in all directions. To the left there was a shimmer of red light, slight, but I saw it. I picked up my arms and tried to find a new wall that would lead me to the light. I stumbled as I walked not knowing if there was something in front of me or not. Frustration was nagging at the back of my mind.
I touched a wall and walked close to it letting it lead me straight towards the red light. As I neared the light it got brighter, and it looked like shadows were playing in the light. The light seemed to move. I finally reached it and the hall that I saw before me was startling. The lights that I had seen moving were just that moving. Casting shadows on places that were once illuminated. I was never in this part of the military. Red lights were on the ceiling but they weren’t attached to anything. The lights just floated there. I was confused and frustrated what was happening? I had to hurry up the soldiers won’t be long until they wake up and deliver the message. I had to get out of here before any of that happened.
I walked slowly making sure not to touch anything. Once I got out of that commotion of light the halls here were well lit. I don’t know why the lights were there, and I have a pretty bad feeling in the pit of my stomach about them. I walked cautiously down the halls. I have been here. I remembered that I walked down this hall when the soldiers took me to see the major renovation being done to the base. That meant that there wasn’t going to be anyone near here. I realized with a start that the reason that nobody was going to be here was because this was sector negative 4. I remembered seeing the new blueprint for the renovation. They were perfect for major security. They were also ideal to hide our commander while war was waging on top of us. Our commander would sit in the room that was going to be maid and give orders to our soldiers outside. He was just hiding like the coward he is. A picture of the blueprint came up in my thoughts. The way they were going to take down this sector was by…bombing it. They were going to blow up this sector!
I bolted towards the right hall. It flew by me and I turned left knowing these halls like the palm of my hand. My heart was pounding in my chest. I was breathing heavily from running. I stopped and looked around trying to catch my breath at the same time. The lights here were very dim and the light bulbs were covered in dust. Making it dimmer than it should be. The lights flickered occasionally as I started my run again. Three more corridors and there will be and exit next to an empty control room. Two more corridors flew by me. "Yes, the sergeant will be waiting for us at base 54." I heard voices. I stopped in my tracks. Damm! I turned my head looking for a room, any room to hide. I walked forward a few steps cautious not to make a sound. “I wonder what this is all about. Have any ideas trev?" the man asked. "Not a clue!" responded trev . The voices were getting louder. This meant they were getting closer. There were two doors on the right wall. Both locked unfortunately. I moved to the left wall. There was one door. The sign read, "Recruits Lounge." I twisted the knob while silently praying it to be open.
The door opened and a rush of cold air slapped her face. I hurried in closing the door behind her carefully. Two hands slipped around her waist in a secure lock. A cold metal touched the skin of my throat. Someone spoke into my ear as my head shot up. "Don’t scream or I’ll slice your throat." I nodded her head and swiftly backwards kicked his groin and grabbed the arm in which he held a knife and twisted it backwards. It resulted in the knife being dropped to the floor with a clatter. He grunted as I twisted his now free hand to the back of his body.
I slipped one foot under his leg causing him to fall to the floor. His chest hit the ground roughly. My knee was planted at the base of his back causing him to stay put or endure some pain in his lower back. "Sorry to bother you but you won't be cutting my throat any day." I said with a tone of innocence. My face looking a little smug as I talked," you see you’re the one who is on the ground huffing for air." I slide my gun back to me with my foot. I had dropped it while wrestling this guy to the ground. I grabbed it with my free hand and pointed at the man’s head. " now would you mind getting up and not attacking me because this in total honesty is not a comfortable position and I being me am all for comfortable." I said to him.
"Fine," he spat. "now now I would change your tone in language if I were you cause I have the guns in this relationship." i said smile tugging at my lips." ughh!"He responded. I got up slowly not trusting this guy in the least bit. My gun still pointed at his head he got up slowly as well. I was actually seeing him for the first time. His hair was slightly disheveled and was a light brown with random streaks of blonde in it. He wore a black regular t shirt with some uniform pants. This in total honesty was very weird. He also had on some black standard army shoes. I looked up at his face and green eyes stared back at me. His face was all angles. His high cheek bones set his face into an angel that is very appealing to the eye.
"What’s your name?" he asked me. "Katherine, what’s yours?" I responded. i held my gun still pointing at him. “Gabriel" he said.
