Song for chapter: ATTENTION - Joji

Ethan's pov
She was standing in the hallway when I walked through the front doors of the school. Two braids were pulled back, her curls falling down wildly, stopping at the small of her back. She turned and I saw her face from the side, her mouth open, laughing. Her eyes were glowing, and I could sense the happiness being radiated off of her, even from thirty yards away. Her presence was so powerful, yet she had no idea the impact she could make if she tried. A simple action done by her could cause a ripple effect so catastrophic, it would make every scientist question everything they had ever studied. If she really wanted to, she could rule everything in existence. She could rip down walls that had been standing for centuries. She was capable of so much more than she gave herself credit for.
The bell rang, snapping me out of my trance. I glanced over to take one more look, but she was already gone. She was probably sitting at her desk in her first period class, writing notes, getting in trouble for laughing.
I smiled to myself thinking about it. She loved to talk, and she talked a lot, and she always got scolded for it in class, which would just make her giggle.
I have to talk to her after school.
--
She sat beside Grayson in drama, and I sat on the other side of him, with Raegan on the other side of her. I tried to make eye contact with her multiple times, but every time I tried, she looked away. She avoided even making the slightest glance in my direction the whole period.
The final bell rang, and she jumped out of her seat, threw her bag over her shoulder, and ran out of the classroom. I was right on her heels, trying to keep up with her pace amongst the crammed hallways. I was behind her the whole way to the student parking lot.
I grabbed her wrist as soon as she reached for the door handle of her car, stopping her right before she latched onto it. I yanked on her arm, causing her to spin and face me, her face full of anger.
"What?" She practically spat at me, trying to pull her arm from my grasp.
"I'm not giving up," I told her, smirking slightly as I released the pressure on her arm, still keeping my hold firm.
"Take a hint, dude," she yelled, turning around to try to open her car again.
I yanked her back by her wrist, and when she reeled around, her fist made contact with my cheek, causing me to let go of her hand and cradle my cheek with my own.
"Jesus Christ," I mumbled, watching her open the door with a smirk on her face. I ran around to the other side of the car and jumped in the passenger seat.
She looked over at me and I could feel the heat radiating off of her.
"Get. Out," she said through clenched teeth.
"No can do," I said, wincing slightly as she leaned over the gear shift towards me.
"Get out," she repeated, whispering it.
"Just give me a ride home," I said, facing her and looking deeply into her icy blue eyes that showed nothing less than hatred.
She rolled her eyes and sighed, leaning over into her own seat and starting the car.
"I swear, if you try anything in this vehicle, I will throw you out while we're going 80," she raised her eyebrows at me and I knew she was being completely serious. I gulped and nodded my head.
