Chapter eight

I was shaken awake roughly and awkwardly. Aly stared down at me, eyes red and wet, though she was not crying. She shook uncontrollably and stared me right in the face. Ash stood in front of me, hands on my arms, still shaking me, his longish black hair hang in awkward strands across his face, his eyes, silver but had the same red sting around the rim.

I cleared my throat. Ash stopped and stepped back from me, brushing hair off his face. I looked at the two of them, utterly confused. “What?” I asked, genuinely baffled.

“Have lovely dreams did you?” he asked softly. The blood drained out of my face and I closed my eyes, “I’m so sorry,” I said, my voice soft my eyes welling up with tears.

Aly walked over to me and wrapped her arms around me in a comforting hug. “You screamed all night until a little angel came to comfort you,” she said. I looked up, and much to as she said, a little angel was sitting at the foot of my bed, licking her hindquarters.

“Secret!” I said happily, and at the sound of her name, the grey cat looked up and walked up and stood on my stomach, staring at me. I brushed my hand over her fur and she purred gleefully. Aly joined in stroking her and eventually Ash came over and gave her a pat or two.

“Thank you,” I said, staring into the felines golden eyes. She walked up to my face and licked my nose. She settled down on my chest and began to sleep with her face against my cheek.

Aly and Ash chuckled together and I smiled. “Can she stay with me here?” I asked hopefully. Secret, as if on cue, jumped off the bed and began to rub against Aly’s legs, eyes big and hopeful.

Ash smiled and said in a laughing tone, “If she behaves herself.” He then went on to stroke her as she purred with pleasure.

A few hours later, Ash had left to do some “guy stuff” which I assumed to be something like getting away from a place where he was outnumbered by girls. Aly was watching TV and Secret was sleeping at the end of my bed.

It was all peaceful when a sudden outburst of “BLOOMING HECK” came from outside my door. I chuckled and replied with “What?”

She walked in and looked rather miffed. “The blooming Crimson Knight is being rewarded for ‘saving the day’ yesterday after he allegedly “fended off two fully armed villains who were terrorising the local public.”

My eyes widened, “that it total RUBBISH!” I said. She nodded and said, “Apparently he caught Silhouette stealing a precious diamond and single-handedly fought her and despite the fact that she was fully armed he managed to beat her, when another villain, Night Shade, came out of no-where and encased him in a sphere of iron. No-one knows who she is, but she took him off-guard.  He then broke out and yet again saved the day from evil.” She said the last part with sarcasm thickly coating her words.

I raised an eyebrow, “these people are totally misinformed,” I said, to which Aly nodded. I smiled and attempted to sit up. My side groaned at me in disapproval so I lay back down. “Did you see Night Shade?” I asked.

She nodded, her eyes lighting up slightly. “She was brilliant,” Aly said with a smile. “She was all like…” Aly went on to touch her hands to her lips and blew out. She then went on to describe Night Shade and used exaggerated movements that looked strangely like a fairy impersonation.

I laughed when she began impersonating Hero Boy; she mimicked him in a hilarious attempt at a male voice, and walked around the room with her chest out, talking about how amazing she was at saving the day.

She was in the middle of ‘shooting her laser’ when Ash walked into the room and saw her. He looked at her for a moment before he fell to the floor laughing. She tried to hold back a smile and kicked him softly before starting to laugh as well.
