Your Pov

I hummed quietly to myself, carefully poring the purple liquid into the graduated cylinder. The now yellow liquid made a sizzling sound and produced a slight amount of steam. I smirked and adjusted my glasses. Just the reaction I was looking for.

I was working on a concoction that was supposed to cause immortality. I've been working on it for years now, and I think I finally found the exact measurements needed. Most of the previous experiments had been on unfortunate soul reapers and humans who had fallen into my grasp.

I was just as sadistic and twisted as my captain when it came to experimentation. But there were two problems with that. One, I didn't have anyone to test the solution on. Two, I was sure this was correct, and I want to test it on myself.

It would be a risky move, but one I was willing to take. I took a syringe and put some of my concoction into it. After a deep breath, I jabbed it into my arm and injected the solution.

"Ohhhhhh (Y/n)~" A sing-song voice called out.

I smiled, knowing that voice all too well. My best friend, Kai.

"In here, Kai."

She skipped into the room.

"Heya! Whatcha up to?" She wrapped her arms around my waist and put her head on my shoulders.

She'd been my best friend for years, and while her boyfriend - Gin - still had to get used to the fact that she acted like this towards me. We cuddled, slept in the same bed at sleep overs, etc. I didn't mind though.

I liked her touch, it was... soothing. She always had set my mind at ease.

"Hm, just an experiment."

I didn't go into detail. I knew it would interest her and she would want to join in.

"What kiiiiiind of experiment?" She persisted.

"Just an experiment."

She pouted and it was cute. I pecked her cheek, pulling away from her grip.

"Hmph, fine. But if it's bad, I suggest hiding it from the captain~" She sing-singed as she skipped away.

"Hide what from the captain?" A voice sounded from my doorway, causing my blood to run cold.

I knew that voice all too well. Mayuri Kurotsuchi.

"C-captian Kurotsuchi." My voice came out as a weak stutter.

I shook my head, gripping the syringe tightly and turning towards the man I looked up to. I usually wasn't intimidated by any of the captians. There was just something about Mayuri that left my heart beating quickly.
