The next week flew by as Adam got really busy with his latest work assignment. He had little time to get back home and think about the past events. But he knew that Rhea had moved back to her house along with Zoey and that Zach was still invisible.
Nothing had changed between them except the fact that Rhea had seemed to put a pause on her plan. He was still unsure of the reason. Maybe it was because he was unavailable for her antics or maybe it was because it was of the resounding kiss they had shared on Sunday.
Adam wanted to believe it was the latter but it was too soon to hope. He'd rather busy himself in work for the time being instead of worrying too much. The more he thought about it, the more restless he became and wanted to do something about his situation. And he feared that he might act in haste and it would turn out to be his fatal mistake. It's been more than two years that he had thought about his mistakes and what could have been. And it was two years too much.
There was no denying that the kiss had been mind-blowing and that it meant there was something between them after all. Except he knew Rhea was too raw to react in a good way about it. Especially after her father had recently opened one of her deepest wounds. And Adam knew all her plans beforehand and so it was easy to play her own games.
Not that it was difficult; it was what he would have done anyway. He always used to pamper her and treat her with patience. And he would still have done so when she was pulling off her recent antics. And Adam had to admit he was curious to know to which extent she would go to prove him that she did not love him back.
He grinned to himself when he thought of her next step. The magazine had asked the ideal girlfriend to remind her boyfriend of their hot relationship in bed. And Rhea had to prove to him how bad a lover she was. Adam could hardly wait for her next step.
Things were going to become interesting. Would she sleep with him to prove how bad a lover she was? He knew that her last kiss had been an act of desperation just to show him that they were sexually incompatible.
And he had tried to prove her the exact opposite without using words. He had poured everything he felt for her in the kiss. Whether it had worked or not, he never knew but he fervently wished that at least some of his feelings had been conveyed through it. Rhea had acted like a trapped rabbit after the kiss and had practically fled from their jogging track.
But he had been expecting that kind of reaction. For her to run in the opposite direction as fast as her legs would carry her. But what he had not been expecting was her to remain in her shell for more than a week. But Adam knew if he tried to poke her from her hibernate position, she would react even more dramatically than her last escapade to New York.
Which left him with no choice. No other choice than to wait for her to come back to him with her stupid ideas. At least when she was executing her plan, she was closer to him than she had been for the past two years.
There was a saying he firmly believed in. If You Love Someone, Set Them Free; If They Come Back They're Yours. And she came back. That very afternoon. Waiting for him to come back from work. She was wearing a light summer dress which clung to her body like a second skin. Since she was not very fond of exercise, she had curves in the right places and even of not toned, her body was luscious.
Trying to keep his carnal thoughts to himself, he greeted her casually ignoring the way his breath caught at her nearness. Was he destined to feel so much love for someone so close to him? It was pure torture to love her so much from afar. How he wanted to grab her and make senseless love to her all the time.
But he knew better than to hope she had come back for him. There must be something left of his heart for her to come back for another savage massacre. It was not that he was fed up with her but she was really testing the final ounce of his patience. Especially when he had so much to prove to his own father to be able to take his place within the company.
