It was now 5:00 pm. Everybody had started packing up to go home. I froze.
I realized I couldn't leave. I didn't have anywhere to stay the night. Oh dear.. this is a problem.
I started looking around worriedly, wondering what in the hell I was going to do. I couldn't stay with any of the guys, I didn't want to be a burden, the other makeup girls had already left. But then I remembered. The "Pad" set had chairs & couches. I could just stay there. I waved goodbye to everyone, and waited for everyone to leave. I slipped my jacket off to use as a blanket, and put it on the couch.
"How come you ain't goin home? We're done for the day."
Micheal Nesmith you sneaky mofo.
I turned to face the tall Texan.
"Well..y-you see..uhh. RENOVATION! My house is being renovated due to an incident with a toaster!"
Terrible excuse, I know, please work.
"What on earth did you do to a toaster that ended up needin things fixed?!"
"That is a very long story."
Mike was skeptical.
"You don't have a place to stay..do you?"
"Uhh......no..."
"Well I can't let you stay here, what if someone broke in an' hurt you? How 'bout you stay with Phyllis n' I for a while?"
Mike was actually opening his home to me. Holy. Bajeezus. Yes please.
"S-Sure! That's really nice of you!"
I grab my few things and go with him.
He hops in the car and I get in the passenger seat. And mike begins to drive.
I steal glances at Mike. He was so Handsome, his soft eyes, his cute nose....his..lips...
I could feel my breath get heavier as I lost my self, looking at him.
"See somethin' you like darlin'?"
"...possibly."
"Ah, but you're still so young. What a shame, you're a groovy chick."
"I'm 19! I'm not THAT young"
That was a lie. I'm a lot younger than that sadly. But SHHHHHHH!!!!
Mike pats my thigh."Still young darlin'. You can't even drink yet. Even if you were, I'm still married to Phyllis. Which I'm sure you're happy about"
The last part obviously being sarcastic.
I roll my eyes and look out the window.
"I'm sorry Amber."
"Not your fault Mike. You didn't know me when you married her."
I give him a sad smile, which he returned.
We talk about other things, such as music, places we wished we could go, things we would do there etc.
"We're here."
Mike puts the car in Park, and gets out. I hop out too.
His house is huge. It was cool and all, but money wasn't important to me, so other than the confusing amount of rooms, it didn't phase me much.
I was introduced to Phyllis and Christian.Phyllis was super nice, and Christian was the most adorable little boy ever.
It made me feel pretty bad. But at the same time, Micheal's wandering habit ended the relationship in '72. And if my existence in this timeline could end her future suffering, then so be it. Yeah I might be extremely selfish and maybe kinda terrible for doing this, but this was my chance in a life time, and I had passed on so many opportunities in the past, that for the first time, I was truly determined to do something. I was going to end up with mike, so I could change him for the better.
Phyllis showed me to a guest room, and told me I would be staying there. I smiled and thanked her. She told me to put my stuff wherever, and get myself sorted out, and then she'd call me out for supper. I nod at her and she closes the door.
I found some pieces of scrap paper. I formed 2 timelines. The original path, that I, and many others know. And below it, the same one, with changes made to it.
I specifically made it so that while major Monkees related events still happened (such as future episodes and the eventual movie the following year.) but I carefully shoehorned myself in.
All of a sudden.
"AMBER!!! SUPPER IS READY!!
I was startled by the sudden shouting, I even dropped my pencil.
"COMING!!"
I put the paper with the timelines on it in a safe place, and join the Nesmiths for supper.
